QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's Degree in Reading

  2. Successful completion of Reading Recovery training.

  3. Successful completion of Literacy Coordinator training.

  4. Three years successful experience as Literacy Coordinator at school campus

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher Pay 187 days Wage/hour status: Exempt


JOB GOAL: To coordinate and monitor the training for and implementation of the Literacy Collaborative® project for teachers to meet students' needs.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Communicate with appropriate personnel and serve as a specialist to support Literacy Facilitators in their work with teachers at the campus level.

2.       

Work with the Site Coordinator and Administrators to plan and initiate activities related to implementing Literacy Collaborative® at the site and campus levels.

3.       

Assist in recruiting and identifying appropriate teachers for the training class; order materials for teacher training.

4.       

Work with the Site Coordinator to develop a plan for early literacy curriculum, staff development, and the formation of campus literacy teams.

5.       

Plan itineraries for visitors to the program; inform appropriate groups about Literacy Collaborative.

6.       

Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to the curriculum division specifically as related to Literacy Collaborative.

7.

Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.

8.

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents.

9.

Prepare an annual district site report.

10.

Assist teachers and principals in preparing annual campus Literacy Collaborative® Reports.

11.   

Compile and implement a budget related to the project.

12.   

Teach a training class for literacy facilitators according to standards designed by Literacy Collaborative®

13.   

Develop and follow a course syllabus, which includes content and up-to-date training material to comply with Literacy Collaborative® and university/college guidelines.

14.   

Works with children in classroom for a minimum of 20 hours each school year.

15.   

Visit teachers -in-training frequently during the year to provide guidance and to clarify appropriate procedures.

16.   

Establishes a central professional development center that provides for live observation of classroom sites.

17.   

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities; annually conduct and receive colleague visits with other trained Literacy Collaborative Collogues.

18.   

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined into the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

19.   

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

20. 

Attend an annual Literacy Collaborative® institute each year.

21.

Participate in opportunities for interaction with other Literacy Collaborative ® trainers, clinical trainers, and teachers, including instructional personnel.

22.

Keeps current on professional written materials.

23.

Articulate the district's mission and goals to community and solicit support in realizing the mission.

24.

Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.

        25.

Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Conduct a parent/community awareness program.

        26.

Conduct administrator training in Literacy Collaborative® principles and practices.

        27. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
        28.

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide functions.

Physical Demands: Frequent district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting.
