906 - HEAD START INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIST

       


REPORTS TO: Head Start Director

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree, with graduate work preferred.
2. Teacher’s certificate required; IPT endorsement, or specialized technology training preferred.
3. Three years teaching experience; computer proficiency.
4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.
 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2, 226 days Wage/hour Status: Exempt


 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

 

1.       

Assists the Head Start classrooms in the organization and placement of computers and materials.

2.       

Provide Head Start demonstrations in the effective use of technology.       

3.       

Guide Head Start teachers in on-site training for students in the special applications of technology.                                           

4.       

Accurately reports documented teacher training to supervisor.        

5.       

Coordinates with and assists Head Start teachers in implementing new or updated hardware and software.                       

6.       

Assists in the evaluation and selection of technological instructional material and equipment for Head Start classrooms and administrative office. 

7.       

Assist Head Start classrooms with software and/or hardware problems.

8.       

Accurately documents software installation; adheres to Federal/District copyright laws.

9.       

Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school district.

10.     

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and laws, including copyright laws.

11.     

Improve leadership skills and continuously updates expertise in current technology trends through self-initiated professional development activities.

12.     

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

13.     

Use information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

14.     

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. 

15.     

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

16.     

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

17.     

Compile and maintain computerized records of Head Start children through its ChildPlus program.
18. Compile and document the Program Information Report (PIR) which is sent to the agent of the federal government.
19.  Plan and train Head Start administrative staff and ChildPlus on other current software.

EQUIPMENT USED: 
Computers, printers, scanners, FAX, copiers, typewriters, TVs, VCRs, presentation systems, laser disk players, video, digital, and still cameras and other technology/media equipment. 

Working Conditions: 
Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal, electronic, and written); maintain emotional control under stress; ability to operate computer and other technologies listed; ability to evaluate instructional materials, speak in public, design and organize training materials and to schedule multiple tasks. 
Physical Demands:  Moderate standing, sitting, stooping, bending and lifting; repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer.  Occasional assistance in laboratory installation and configuration; close work with a variety of electronic equipment. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel.
