        Job Description


 

 

REPORTS TO: Director, Facility Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School Diploma; valid Texas driver’s license.
2. Ten years experience in custodial/supervisory capacity.
3. Knowledge of routine custodial practices and methods.
4. Knowledge of equipment, chemicals, and materials used in cleaning processes.
5. Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance.
6. Ability to manage personnel.
7. Effective planning and organizational skills.
8. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

 

SUPERVISES: Supervises and evaluates the work of the district’s custodians


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 1, 226 days Wage and Hour Status: Exempt


Major Responsibilities

1.       

Establish and oversee schedules and procedures for the regular custodial care of all district facilities.

2.        

Work cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.

3.        

Inspect all district buildings and facilities and initiate cleaning and repairs as needed.

4.        

Provide training and orientation to all custodians in cleaning procedures and proper use of chemicals and equipment.

5.        

Make assignment changes and arrange for substitute custodians as needed.

6.        

Direct and assist in setting up facilities for special events.

7.        

Schedule and supervise summer custodial projects, including cleaning and refinishing floors.

8.        

Instruct assigned personnel on proper and safe use of equipment and chemicals.

9.        

Ensure that tools and equipment are operated according to established safety procedures.

10.     

Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

11.     

Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

12.     

Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

13.     

Ensure labeling of all containers of hazardous chemicals with specific information.

14.     

Maintain current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each hazardous chemical in a location readily available for review by employees, students, and others.

15.     

Administer employee training in compliance with the AHERA Rule.

16.     

Test and recommend custodial supplies and equipment to be used.

17.     

Prepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for custodial equipment.

18.     

Order equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records.

19.     

Recommend replacement of existing equipment.

20.     

Conduct annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.

21.     

Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

22.     

Assist in the preparation of department budget.
       23. Recommend employment/promotions and replacement of lead custodians.
       24. Supervise TISD's lead custodians.
       25. Assist in recruiting, screening, training, and evaluation of custodial personnel.
       26. Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities.
       27. Performs duties in a professional , ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.
       28. Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.
       29. Articulates the district mission to the community; solicits its support in realizing the mission.
       30. Demonstrates effective and verbal communication skills.
      31. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
   

EQUIPMENT USED:

Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, hand tools, shampooer, lawn mower, edger, and weed eater.  Light truck or van. 

Working Conditions: 

Mental Demands:  Maintain emotional control under stress; continual walking, climbing and standing; moderate lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders.  Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.  Frequent districtwide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
