       Job Description

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree

  2. Texas Mid-management, or other appropriate Texas certificate; valid Texas teaching certificate.

  3. At least eight years successful teaching and administrative experience.

  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 9, 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.     

Articulates high expectations for principals and staff through communication and evaluation oversight.

2.       

Involves the principals and staff in decision-making activities that focus on effective teaching/learning practices and student success.                              

3.       

Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.                   

4.     

Promotes a shared vision of what the district is and should be.

5.       

Involves staff in evaluating and selecting equipment and materials to meet campus needs; ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process. 

6.       

Obtain and evaluate findings (including student achievement data) to examine curriculum and instruction program effectiveness.  

7.       

Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources to assist principals and supervised instructional staff in attaining objectives.                    

8.       

Respond appropriately to situations that could impair the teaching/learning process or could threaten safety and the well being of students and staff. 

9.       

Oversees the formulation of the campus plans of action; ensures the plans are developed by the CPOC and address the district and superintendent’s goals.

10.   

Interprets and disseminates TEA directives to staff. 

11.     

Ensures that student grading practices are uniformly and consistently applied and that they support effective teaching/learning practices.

12.   

Initiate and support innovative instructional programs. 

13.   

Demonstrates support for the district’s student management policies.

14.     

Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy; offers constructive suggestions to ensure that policies and regulations support the teaching/learning process. 

15.   

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports,  records, and other documents required.

16.   

Demonstrates responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets.

17.     

Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs; ensure that fiscal resources address the mission of the district.

18.   

Assist with the implementation of the PDAS; may serve as second appraiser.

19.     

Conferences regularly with assigned staff to discuss performance; jointly develops improvement objectives to identify professional growth opportunities. 

20.   

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

21.   

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

22.     

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance; evaluates the job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.

23.   

Documents the human, material, and fiscal resources needed to attain the district’s instructional  goals.

24.     

Analyzes the district’s facility and equipment needs as related to optimum teaching and learning; utilizes information to make necessary changes or adjustments.

25.     

Interprets and implements operational procedures and regulations; recommends improvements that impact the school district’s instructional programs. 

26.     

Develop and implement effective communication between the schools and community.  Promote community support and involvement with the schools. 

27.   

Communicates the district’s vision, mission, success and needs to the community.

28.     

Assists in representing the district in activities involving other school systems, institutions, agencies, and professional or community groups.

29.   

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

30.   

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

        31. Oversees the PEIMS process as it relates to the department.

 

Equipment Used:  Computer, copier, fax, printer, and scanner

 

Working Conditions: 
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress;  coordinate district wide functions; interpret policy, procedures and data.

Physical Demands:
Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal possible.  Frequent district wide travel; occasional statewide travel; and frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
