 Job Description

 

REPORTS TO:   Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree Fine Arts

  2. Texas Mid-management preferred

  3. Valid Texas teaching certificate with at least three years successful teaching and administrative experience.

  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

SUPERVISES: Secretary


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional; Pay Grade 4; 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


JOB GOAL(S):

  1. Direct and manage district visual and performing arts programs and facilities to meet student needs.

  2. Serve as instructional leader in development of instructional programs in fine arts education.

  3. Assist in assessing teacher and student performance.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Provides curriculum format and appropriate training for teachers to develop, implement, evaluate and revise curriculum documents.

2.       

Provides building principals with curriculum support and identifies specific strategies to support the Campus Plans of Action.

3.       

Interfaces with the Department of Assessment and Accountability to identify alternative assessment instruments and methods.

4.       

Provides curriculum support for all campuses and teachers to meet students’ needs.

5.       

Assists in providing and selecting appropriate resources including textbook selection.

6.       

Interpret and articulates the visual and performing arts instructional program to parents and community persons, as needed.

7.       

Ensures national and state standards are studied and understood at the district level.

8.       

Plans, organizes, and supervises all local, state, and national contests/competitions and special events for the district.

9.       

Is prompt and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

10.     

Plans, directs, and supervises the activities of the Visual and Performing Arts Department in accordance with the district’s policies and applicable laws.

11.   

Prepares documents, summaries, management and implementation plans and reports as requested

12.     

Keeps abreast of technical, legislative, and professional trends and developments affecting the district’s visual and performing arts program, and disseminates this information to appropriate personnel

13.   

Serves as a liaison to the Texas Education Agency to maintain updates on content/skill areas and mandatory state requirements.

14.     

Implements the policies established by federal law, state law, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and local board policy in the area of visual and performing arts.

15.   

Compiles, maintains, files, and presents all reports, records, and other documents required.

16.     

Directs and participates in the preparation and management of departmental budgets and budget recommendations for the district’s visual and performing arts programs.

17.   

Maintains current inventory of district instruments and equipment.

18.   

Initiates purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.

19.   

Promotes collegiality, teamwork, and participatory decision making among all district staff members

20.   

Interfaces with appropriate department staff to ensure quality training of professional staff around content/skill areas and curriculum in order to support the visual and performing arts program.

21.   

Provides feedback to the supervisor

22.   

Assists in recruiting, selecting, and training all visual and performing arts personnel and makes sound recommendations about personnel placement, assignments, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

23.   

Assist in evaluating the job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.

24.   

Utilizes information provided through the District appraisal process to improve  performance.

25.   

Participates in professional development programs that lead to improved job performance.

26.   

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

27.   

Implements district student management policies, communicates expected student behavior related to fine arts, and ensures enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook at all special events.

28.   

Establishes and maintains open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital issues with parents, students, and teachers.

29.   

Articulates the district’s mission and goals in the area of visual and performing arts to community and solicits its support in realizing mission.

      30.

Supports the visual and performing arts booster club activities.

      31.

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities related to the position and as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district and statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
