        Job Description


REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy, physical therapy, or related program.
2. Valid Texas license as a occupational therapist or physical therapist granted by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy Examiners.
3. One year of experience as an occupational therapist or a physical therapist.
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 4, 204 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

1.       

Plan and provide direct and consultative services consisted with occupational therapy/physical    therapy goals in students’ Individual Education Plans (IEP).    

2.       

Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of occupational therapy/physical therapy services.                                                                                       

3.       

Design, construct, and alter equipment if necessary.  Provide students with adaptive equipment and devices to promote maximum independence. 

4.       

Assess students with disabilities and determine eligibility for services.

5.       

Participate in the Admission, Review, and dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with the    interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students according to district procedures.

6.       

Consult with educational staff and parents regarding occupational therapy or the use of specialized equipment and materials.

7.       

Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with the selection and use of adaptive equipment and understanding the occupational therapy program; or,  to help school personnel understand students with physical disabilities.

8.       

Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.      

9.       

Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the occupational therapy or physical therapy program and implement changes based on the findings.

10.     

Assist in the selection of equipment and adaptive material.

11.     

Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.

12.     

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports,  records, and other documents required. 

13.     

Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. 

14.     

Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.         

15.     

Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents. 

16.     

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

17.     

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of    Ethics for Educators.

18.     

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

19.     

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

20.     

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

 

Equipment used:
Computer, copier, fax, and equipment related to position.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands: Regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; moderate lifting, frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, heavy lifting, and moderate carrying. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchairs or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities.
