654A Facilitator of Literacy and Media Services

     

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum and Instruction/Staff Development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's Degree in Library Sciences preferred.

  2. At least five years successful teaching/librarian experience; valid Texas teaching certificate.

  3. Texas Mid-management, administrative or curriculum experience preferred.

  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 4, 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Works with appropriate staff to develop, maintain and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis with a special emphasis on reading/language arts.

2.       

Facilitates the district curriculum, instructional policies, accomplishments, goals and new directions to parents and the community and solicits their input on these instructional issues in the areas of literacy and library/media services.

3.       

Plans, implements and evaluates TEKS-based instructional programs with teachers and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies and assessment techniques.

4.       

Assists in the planning and implementation of effective staff development activities that address the mission of the district, program evaluation outcomes and input from theachers and others in the areas of literacy K - 12 and library/media services.

5.       

Works to insure curricular integration of library services with the alignment in all grade levels in Reading/ELA.

6.       

Secures input and date to evaluate curriculum and instructional program effectiveness.

7.       

Facilitates the implementation of library skills and literacy instruction set forth by the Texas Library Standards and the Tyler ISD Reading/Language Arts curriculum.

8.       

Provides support to classroom teachers in Literacy strategies for reading/ELA and librarians.                

9.       

Facilitates the district's library media programs at all campuses, along with the district library budget and campus allocation.

10.     

Provides guidance and assistance in the selection, acquisition and processing of library materials in the district.

11.     

Provides guidance and assistance in the hiring and evaluations of campus librarians.

12.     

Serves as lead librarian in the administration of district software programs, including Destiny, AR, World Book and other electronic media.

13.     

Receives and manages the ongoing exhibit books for all librarians in the district.

14.     

Facilitates the District Library Advisory Committee and works with campus advisory committees.

15.     

Complies, maintains, files and presents reports, records and other documents required.

16.     

Implements the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule and local board policy; offers constructive suggestions to ensure that policies and regulations support the teaching/learning process.

17.     

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

Physical Demands:  Bending, stooping, lifting.  Frequent use of computer keyboard.
