Job Description

 

Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree

  2. Texas Principal, Midmanagement, Supervisor or other appropriate certification.

  3. At least three years of successful teaching experience.

  4. Certified PDAS appraiser, preferred.

  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal:

  1. To assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and campus level operations.

  2. To work in concert with the principal and staff to identify and achieve specific instructional goals.

  3. To develop and maintain a program for personal and staff professional growth, cooperationa nd self-renewal that stimulates creativity and innovation.

Terms of Employment: Administrative/Professional Paygrade 5; 197 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

1.       

Participates in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.

2.       

Assists principal in maintaining and using information systems to maintain and records to track progress on campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

3.       

Participates in the development and evaluation of the educational programs.

4.       

Encourages and supports the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

5.       

Promotes the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

6.       

Works with the Principal, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services in documenting placement pertaining to Special Education, Bilingual, and Gifted.

7.       

Assists teachers with state-mandated tests by coordinating materials and testing guidelines.

8.       

Assists staff in analyzing data and using results to improve the quality of the working/learning climate.

9.       

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees.

10.     

Supervises operations in the absence of the regular principal.

11.     

Assists with developing budgets based upon documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs.

12.     

Assists with coordinating transportation, custodial, and other support services.

13.     

Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory, maintain records, and verify receipts for materials.

14.     

Assist with safety inspections and safety-drill practice activities. 

15.     

Conducts conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.

16.     

Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior. 

17.     

Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.  Serve as second appraiser for designated teacher appraisal system. 

18.     

Confers with staff members regarding their professional growth and leadership skills; works jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.

19.     

Identifies, provides, and/or encourages participation in available inservice training options to address the goals identified through the growth planning process.

20.     

Assists the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff

21.     

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

22.     

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

23.     

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

24.     

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

25.     

Annually establishes and meets performance

26. Assists principals in overseeing the campus PEIMS process goals.
27. Act as a PEIMS liaison between the principal and campus staff.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate campus support functions.

Physical Demands: Moderate standing, stooping bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; prolonged and irregular hours; regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
