638 A - SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION APPRAISAL FACILITATOR
Reports To: Director of Special Education
Qualifications:
Master’s degree
Texas Teacher and Special Education Certificate; Diagnostician Certificate
At least three years experience as a classroom teacher and two years diagnostician experience.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

Job Goal:
To coordinate secondary special education services district-wide with an emphasis on the evaluation process
To provide best practices and legal requirements to the appraisal staff.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

Evaluates the effectiveness of current-practice special education programs and identifies potential programs to meet documented needs. |

Monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes; revises such activities as appropriate. |

Works with staff to plan, implement, and evaluate special education curriculum. |
|
11.
|
Facilitates least restrictive environment placement of students with disabilities. |
|
12.
|
Conducts classroom observations and personal interviews. |
|
13.
|
Is responsible to the Director of Special Education and serves as the liaison between campus special education programs and the district's Directors and Coordinators. |

14.
|
Coordinates the child-centered process within the district. |
|
15.
|
Coordinates and facilitates transition planning for secondary students receiving special education services. |
|
16.
|
Staffs individual student cases with Instructional Consultant or Assistant Principal, Principal, 504 Committee where appropriate. |
|
17.
|
Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators. |
|
18.
|
Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills. |
|
19.
|
Develops and maintains required forms in compliance with state and federal laws. |
|
20.
|
Develops, maintains, and utilizes appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the Special Education Department's mission. |
|
21.
|
Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Educational rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school. |
|
22.
|
Coordinates the compilation of student data for the accurate completion of required federal and state reports. |
|
23.
|
Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies concerning special education. |
|
24.
|
Interprets state and federal special education statutes, case law, regulations, and rules on a regular basis; reviews and revises local procedures, operational guidelines and forms accordingly. |
|

|
Works with staff to evaluate the effectiveness of regular curriculum for students with disabilities and to identify and encourage the use of appropriate modifications in content and method, mastery, setting, and personnel. |
|

Works with appraisal staff to ensure compliance with federal and state laws. |
|
27.
|
Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities. |
|
28.
|
Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance. |
|

Reviews, evaluates, and recommends new appraisal instruments to provide the most effective diagnostic battery possible, including modeling of certain testing procedures. |

Plans and assists in the implementation of appropriate staff development programs. |
|

Articulates the district mission to the community; solicits its support in realizing the mission. |

Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs. |
|

Effectively communicates to students, staff, and parents school guidelines for student conduct especially as they relate to special education students. |
|

Encourages plans for improved student behavior that reflects enhanced opportunities for learning. |
|
35. |
Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned. |
EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, fax, and related office equipment
Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate campus support functions.
Physical Demands: Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; prolonged and irregular hours; regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
