REPORTS TO: Campus Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree ( Concentration in student service, counseling or advising preferred.)

  2. Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and communication skills.

  3. Three years of experience in related field preferred.

  4. Willing to work a flexible schedule to help students succeed.

  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board of trustees may find appropriate.

JOB GOAL:
Support at-risk students (students who have not passed and part of the TAKS, failed one or more courses, or is the first in the family to graduate or attend college) to pass TAKS, be successful in course work, graduate in four years, take classes of rigor, and enter college and/or a career after graduation.
 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2, 226 days, (Includes Summer School)
Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.         

Directs the oversight of the College and Career Center for students and parents to explore college admissions, financial aid, career options, and related information to ensure success after high school graduation.

2.         

Prove advice to individuals and groups of students to explore education, career, and personal plans for high school graduation and extended education and careers.

3.         

Design support systems on campus for at-risk students that provide personal contact and supportive experiences that encourage students to stay in school.

4.         

Schedule time to talk with students and advise them about goal setting, college admission, financial aid, and career requirements.

5.         

Monitor opportunities for academic tutorials, credit recovery programs, and another opportunities to assist at-risk students to progress academically and graduate with improved academic ratings.

6.         

Recruit and assign mentors to students who are at-risk and would benefit from the leadership of a mentor from the community.

7.         

Manage the Personal Graduation Plan for the at-risk students and serve as the advisor in cooperation with the student's designated counselor. Monitor the students' progress toward graduation and assist in keeping them on track through graduation. Share the plan with parents and keep them involved.

8.         

Exhibit a positive attitude toward life and learning. Be a positive role model for students. Build students up using constructive terms and respectful language.

9.         

Bring parents into the College and Career Center to explore college admissions, financial aid, and careers with students. Encourages family goal setting and planning.

10.      

Conduct informative sessions for parents and students about the advantages and opportunities offered by the College and Career Center.

11.      

Work cooperatively with appropriate agencies, community groups, and school organizations to support the at-risk students.

12.      

Monitor at-risk students academic progress and recommend interventions to improve student achievement, attitude, and a vision for the future.

13.      

Take students to college campuses for first hand experiences with the college level environment.

14.      

Provide opportunities for students to go out into the community and experience a variety of career opportunities.

15.      

Review materials and software from colleges, universities, business, and careers and supply the College and Career Center with quality materials for students.

16.      

Schedule all students into the College and Career Center to experience the opportunities available as an awareness level. Encourage students to use the Center often for goals setting and planning.

17.      

Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.

18.      

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the Local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school district.

19.      

Attends and participates in designated meetings. Special events as assigned.

20.      

Maintains the confidentiality of student assessment and other district business.

21.      

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

22.      

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

23.      

Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.

24.      

Follows established and safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.

25.      

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrate teamwork in daily activities.

26.      

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

27.      

Is prompt and timely in completing daily tasks.

28.      

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

29.      

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

30.      

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress;  interpret policy, procedures, and data.

Physical Demands: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.  Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; may need the ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.  May be subjected to adverse and hazardous working conditions.
