REPORTS TO: Director of Secondary Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s Degree
2. Texas Mid-Management or other appropriate Texas certificate
3. At least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES: All personnel serving in assigned school and TISD Child Care Center
 



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Paygrade 7; 214 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
 


 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

  1.  

Communicates and promotes expectations for high-level performance for staff and students; recognizes achievement.

  1.  

Establishes and maintains an environment which is conducive to positive staff moral and directed toward achievement of the school’s mission.

  1.  

Fosters collegiality and team-building among staff, encouraging their active involvement in decision process.

  1.  

Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents, and community.

  1.  

Facilitates effective and timely resolution of conflicts.

  1.  

Assesses the school climate and uses resistant data to develop improvement plans in collaboration with others.

  1.  

Has a clear sense of the school’s mission; actively involves the staff in planning and decision-making in order to accomplish the mission.

  1.  

Initiates and supports programs and actions that facilitate a positive, caring climate for learning in an orderly, purposeful environment.

  1.  

Determines and builds a common vision with staff for school improvement; directs planning activities and implements programs collaboratively with staff to ensure attainment of school’s mission.

  1.  

Identifies, analyzes, and applies research findings to facilitate school improvement.

  1.  

Develops, maintains, and utilizes appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the campus performance objectives.

  1.  

Plans and implements instructional improvement.

  1.  

Works with staff to identify and prioritize the curriculum on a systematic basis.

  1.  

Develop with staff the mission and campus plan of  action based on identified needs and programs.

  1.  

Systematically and continuously monitors the campus plan of action to ensure that program activities are related to program goals.

  1.  

Provides instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.

  1.  

Works with staff to plan, implement, and evaluate the curriculum on a systematic basis; includes students and community representatives (when appropriate).

  1.  

Ensures that curriculum renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.

  1.  

Evaluates and recommends improvement in the purpose, design, and implementation of the instructional program.

  1.  

Uses developmental supervision effectively and comprehensively with all staff.

  1.  

Uses the teacher evaluation system appropriately and ensures that evaluations clearly and accurately represent staff performance.

  1.  

Confers with staff members regarding their professional growth and leadership skills; works jointly with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.

  1.  

Identifies, provides, and/or encourages participation in available inservice training options to address the goal identified through the growth planning process.

  1.  

Clearly defines expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management and communication with the public.

  1.  

Is effective in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff; makes sound recommendations relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal.

  1.  

Complies with district policies, and regulations as well as state and federal law, in pursuing the mission of the school.

  1.  

Allocates personnel and fiscal resources to achieve a specific objective.  Develops budgets based upon documented program needs, estimated enrollment, personnel, and other fiscal needs and grants; implements programs with budget limits; maintains fiscal control; accurately reports fiscal information.

  1.  

Monitors the purchase, use, care, and replacement of materials and capital equipment.

  1.  

Maintains documentation for expenditures that provide an audit trail for accountability.

  1.  

Manages or supervises all school facilities (PACE, TISD Child Care Center, & TAPP) effectively; efficiently supervises their maintenance to ensure clean, orderly, and safe buildings and grounds.

  1.  

Works with faculty and encourages student input in developing a student behavior management system that results in positive student behavior, student self-discipline, and the enhancement of all school climate.

  1.  

Effectively develops and communicates to students, staff, and parents school guidelines for student conduct.

  1.  

Ensures that school rules are uniformly observed and that consequences of misconduct are applied equitably of all students.

  1.  

Effectively conducts conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning both the positive aspects of student behavior as well as problem areas.

  1.  

Works with staff, parents, and students to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the school’s Behavior Management Plan.

  1.  

Evaluates student transcripts and schedules classes.

  1.  

Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.

  1.  

Participates in professional development programs which lead to improved job performance.

  1.  

Provides leadership in addressing the challenges facing the profession.

  1.  

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for educators.

  1.  

Demonstrates and elicits trust and respect from others, recognizes and respects the knowledge, experience, and values of others, and demonstrates and secures the confidence of others.

  1.  

Articulates the school’s mission to the community and solicits its support realizing the mission.

  1.  

Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mental Demands

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate campus functions; maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands:

Occasional district and statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subjected to adverse and hazardous working conditions.
