REPORTS TO: Principal and Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master’s degree
2. Current Licensed Specialist in School Psychology Certification
3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 3, 204 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Select and administer assessments and observations to evaluate the intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of referred students and to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and state regulations.

2.       

Score and interpret test data. 

3.       

Develop psychological evaluation reports and behavior intervention plans.

4.       

Conduct or participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee to assist with appropriate placement and development of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students according to district procedures.

5.       

Prepares and submits legally defensible psychological and/or related services reports within the timelines.

6.       

Conduct group and individual counseling sessions and facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed problems.

7.       

Receives student referrals and implements the evaluation process within the required timelines.

8.       

Consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans and in managing behaviorally disruptive student.

9.       

Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavior disturbances. 

10.   

Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.

11.     

Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.

12.     

Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.

13.     

Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.

14.     

Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment  procedures and make changes based on findings.

15.     

Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.

16.     

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.

17.     

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in the areas of psychological services, assessment, placement, and planning for special education services. 

18.     

Serves as the liaison between the campus and the Director of Special Education and serves as the liaison between the campus.  Is responsible to the Director of Special Education, Special Education programs and the district's Directors and Coordinators.

19.   

Serves as campus team member in designing, implementing, and evaluating for special education student placement; shares or assumes responsibility of the confidential folders.

20.     

Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings with the Director of Special Education and other designated staff members.

21.     

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies concerning special education.

22.  

Staffs individual student cases with the Diagnostician, when appropriate.

23.    

Effectively communicates to students, staff, and parents school guidelines for student conduct especially as they relate to special education students.

24.    

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

25.  

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

26.     

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

27.    

Reviews, evaluates, and recommends new appraisal instruments to provide the most effective diagnostic battery possible, including modeling of certain testing procedures.

28.    

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

29.     

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

Working Conditions: 

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate campus support functions. 

Physical Demands:  Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.  May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; prolonged and irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel.
