QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s Degree
2. Teacher or school social worker endorsement
3. Three years of teaching experience preferred
4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2, 192 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES


1.   Investigate cases of unexcused and excessive absences and tardies and enforce provisions of compulsory attendance laws.
2.   Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
3.   Issue warnings; file complaints against students, parents, or individuals with parental control in accordance with compulsory attendance laws, Texas Education Code, and board policy; and refer to appropriate court.
4.   Interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to parents and students.
5.   Represent the school district in court hearings resulting from attendance problems.
6.   Investigate cases of suspected drop out; retrieve textbooks and school property.
7.   Confer regularly with teachers, counselors, principals, and other staff to identify problems of tardiness, attendance, and student truancy.
8.   Is continually aware of attendance at each assigned school and maintains awareness of any patterns and/or causes of attendance problems.
9.   Work closely with counselors, teachers, and other staff to identify and counsel students at risk of dropping out, as well as their parents.
10.   Confer with students in matters of attendance and tardiness and make a reasonable effort to gain their cooperation to improve attendance.
11.   Conduct home visits and parent conferences on student truancy and attendance problems.
12.   Maintain contact and act as liaison to local law enforcement agencies and courts in the area of student truancy.
13.   Oversee the printing and distribution of attendance notification letters to parents.
14.   Provides curriculum interpretation (Section 504 and other special programs) as requested.
15.   Provides assistance related to student transportation.
16.   Provides interpretation of the district’s discipline policy.
17.   Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including records of all cases investigated and reports required by the Commissioner of Education.
18.   Implement and comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in the area of student attendance.
19.   Develops and interprets student attendance policies.                       
20.   Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
21.   Maintain a positive and effective relationship with campus administrators and supervisor.
22.   Transport suspended students home as needed.
23.   Maintain confidentiality.
24.   Serve as a liaison to community agencies providing services to students and notify parents and students of available services, when applicable.
25.    Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
26.  Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.
27.  Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.
28.   Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.
29.   Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
Physical Demands: Frequent district-wide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; may need the ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subjected to adverse and hazardous working conditions.
