REPORTS TO: Director, Instructional Alternative Programs

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree, Texas Teacher’s Certificate
2. Successful experience in working with youth on parenting responsibilities.
3. Training in child growth and development, effective parenting skills and counseling at-risk youth.
4. Successful experience in utilizing community resources.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2, 187 days Wage/hour Status: Exempt


Major Responsibilities

 

1.       

Effectively communicates with students, professional staff, parents, community.

2.       

Promotes a positive, caring climate for learning.                 

3.       

Works with counselors to provide occupational/technical guidance services for counseling, consultation, coordination, and student appraisal to meet the needs of the pregnant/parenting student.

4.       

Serves as a resource person for parents, teachers, and students on problems affecting the educational program and growth of the pregnant/parenting student.  

5.       

Acts as the coordinator for the administration of pregnant/parenting students in making career choices and in compliance with the Texas Education Agency requirements.

6.       

Collects and interprets test data for use in student placement and instructional programs.

7.       

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in the area of student behavior management.

8.       

Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

9.       

Conferences with students, teachers, and parents concerning grades.

10.     

Informs students of the requirements of the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) test with an emphasis on mastery of the test.

11.     

Employs instructional strategies, management procedures, and resources appropriate for meeting the objectives of the Tyler Adolescent Parenting (TAP) program.

12.     

Assists with the application process for college admission, scholarship, financial aid, alternative post high school training, including letters of recommendation. 

13.     

Works closely with the school psychologist, homebound teachers, diagnostician, visiting teacher, TACT counselor and facilitators to help students with special problems.

14.     

Provides crisis counseling and consultation to students; coordinates the delivery of counseling     services with other services for the pregnant and parenting students.

15.     

Consults with the transportation department regarding bus routes for the TAP students.       

16.     

Coordinates enrollment in the Child care Center; makes appropriate decisions concerning justification and need for child care services. 

17.     

Works with the parenting instructor to insure classroom participation and student attendance.

18.     

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

19.     

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

20.     

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

21.     

Works cooperatively with and coordinates the use of community referral services.                    

22.     

Oversees the TISD Child Care Center to insure quality care of children. 

23.     

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

24.     

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

Working Conditions: 

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress. 

Physical Demands:  Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.  Prolonged and irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel.
