        Job Description

 

REPORTS TO: Principal, Supervisor, and Director of Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree

  2. Valid Texas license as a speech language pathology assistant granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

  3. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech, language, and hearing disorders.

  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional 1, 187 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

1.

Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

2.

Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.

3.

Conduct supervised evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders and conditions to determine eligibility for services, as deemed appropriate by his/her supervisor.

4.

May participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee to assist in appropriate placement and goal setting for students with communication disorders or conditions according to district procedures.

5.

Counsel and involve parents in the remedial process.

6.

Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.

7.

Provide professional development in assigned schools to help school personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.

8.

Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals and needs of the students.

9.

Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make changes based on the findings, within the bounds of supervision.

10.

Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.

11.

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school district.

12.

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies.

13.

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.

14.

Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

15.

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

16.

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

17.

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

18.

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

19.

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

Computer, copier, fax, and related office equipment 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress;

Physical Demands:  May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.; regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
