609A - PARENT/TEACHER/COMMUNITY LIAISON, SPECIAL EDUCATION



REPORTS TO:
    Principal of St. Louis School/Director of Special Education

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor's degree

  2. Social Service Work experience

  3. Bilingual Spanish preferred.

  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 1, 187 days


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.  

Utilizes the referral process to help students and others use special programs and services including counseling, emergency assistance, or crisis intervention. Assist with the follow-up of the service needs; provide information to families on available community services.

2.

Conducts district monthly Child Find activities in the community.

3.

Maintains district Child Find Binder of documented activities, and logs of referrals.

4.

Maintains communications with private schools.

5.

Maintains residential facilities documentation and online rftracker.

6.

Collaborates with residential facilities and service providers to ensure accurate documentation.

7.

Recruits and trains Surrogate Parents for the district.

8. 

Makes parent contact/follow-up for children whose school attendance is irregular; tracking students who withdraw.                                            

9.

Represents the district at CRCG meetings and provides follow up documentation to Director of Special Education.    

10.

Coordinates appropriate district personnel to attend CRCG meetings.

11.

Coordinates referrals off students to outside agencies.

12.

Assists in the planning and implementation of parent involvement activities.

13.

Recruits, coordinates and tracks volunteers for St. Louis School.

14.

Assists in education and care of Special Education students as needed.

15.

Maintains relationships with community provider organizations and remain informed of services available to students and parents. May involve membership on local social service boards or committees with approval of supervisor.

16.

Makes home visits to gather information relating to students.

17.

Consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine cause of student problems and effective solutions.

18.

Participates in Admission, Review, and Dismissal ARD Committee when requested to assist in the interpretation of assessment date, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students according to district procedures.

19.

Complies with policies established be federal law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school district.

20.

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and laws.

21.

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

22.

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code.

23.

Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.

24.

Maintains confidentiality of information.

25.

Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

26.

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

27.

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.


Equipment Used:  Computer, copier, fax, related office equipment, and personal vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Share offices
Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate several requests simultaneously.
Physical Demands: Moderate standing, sitting, stooping, bending and lifting; repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
