608 A - Title I/Head Start Early Literacy Trainer/Mentor

REPORTS TO:  Head Start Director & Head Start Early Childhood Education Coordinator


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Reading or Early Childhood preferred.
  2. Valid Texas teacher certificate with at least three years successful teaching experience.
  3. Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

 

SUPERVISES:    NA


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2 with a maximum employment of 192 days. 


JOB GOAL: To deliver to instructional decision makers achievement data which will improve the teaching/learning process.


 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1.  

Communicates with appropriate personnel.

  1.  

Assist with presenting 4-day C.I.R.C.L.E. (Center for Improving Readiness of Children for Learning and Education) training to new Head Start teachers.

  1.  

Assist with presenting 2-day C.I.R.C.L.E. follow-up and workshops as needed.

  1.  

Assist with presenting 4-day C.I.R.C.L.E. (Center for Improving Readiness of Children for Learning and Education) training for Head Start assistants.

  1.  

Facilitate small group and individual follow-up training as needed.

  1.  

Assist with coordinating staff development and Head Start required trainings for Head Start education staff.

  1.  

Evaluate and provide feedback to Head Start teachers weekly.

  1.  

Evaluate student portfolios in Head Start classrooms based on pre-determined criteria.

  1.  

Assist with the development of thematic instructional units.

  1.  

Participate in ongoing staff development related to Head Start.

  1.  

Assist with planning and implementing transitional activities for Head Start students and families.

  1.  

Provide cognitive coaching and feedback to Head Start teachers.

  1.  

Serve as a mentor to assigned Head Start teachers.

  1.  

Observe teachers as they teach and provide feedback based on C.I.R.C.L.E. literacy model.

  1.  

Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

  1.  

Monitor assigned classrooms.

  1.  

Assist with planning and conducting parental involvement activities.

  1.  

Assist with planning of Literacy Summer Reading Program.

  1.  

Assist with planning and implementing student assessment procedures.

  1.  

Assist with evaluation of curriculum and instructional program.

  1.  

On-going research of current successful strategies and programs for early readers.

  1.  

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

  1.  

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

  1.  

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

 

Equipment used:  Computer, copier, fax, presentation equipment and other related office equipment.

Working conditions:

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate several requests simultaneously; interpret policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:  Moderate standing, sitting, stooping, bending and lifting; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel.
