604A COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR


 

REPORTS TO: Director of Communications/Public Relations

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism, business administration or related field required.
  2. Ten years of experience in technology and computer applications.
  3. Two years of related work experience enhancing community communication and outreach preferred.
  4. Experience in developing and maintaining communications projects in related areas such as digital photography and electronic communications preferred.
  5. Experience working with high-tech projects and being able to relate to the end user preferred.
  6. Experience multi-tasking and working under the pressures of deadlines preferred.
  7. Familiarity with digital photography, video streaming and web development preferred.
  8. Knowledge of video/editing software preferred.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional; Pay Grade 2; 226 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt
 


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
 

1.

Coordinate requests from media with district personnel.

2.

Assists in writing media releases for the district.

3.

Researches and produces content for district/campus brochures and electronic communication.

4.

Coordinates internal and external communication initiatives.

5.

Provides key support to office of Communications during a crisis/emergency event.

6.

Collects and disseminates district and campus events to media on a weekly basis.

7.

Designs newspaper and magazine advertisements, as well as flyers, invitations and programs for district/campus events.

8.

Contributes and implements marketing and branding ideas to the department

9.

Maintains communication outreach, emphasizing digital communication such as e-newsletters, maintenance of subscriber databases, development of CD-ROMs for recruitment and new student orientation.

10.

Assist in the development, organization, and production of special projects (i.e., collaborate on project timeline, planning, design, modification, printing, mailing, and evaluation)

11.

Assists and serves as backup to the maintaining of the TISD website and TISD Channel 19 Bulletin Board messaging system.

12.

Routes communications received from the public through the website to appropriate administrators.

13.

Receives, fulfills and records public information requests for the district in accordance to the procedures of the Public Information Act.

14.

Digitize and video-stream video features and other district-wide events as assigned to be used on the TISD website.

15.

Assists with development of an annual communication plan and occasional communication audits.

16.

Uses Adobe software for creating special publications (Photo Shop, InDesign and Quark)

17.

Maintains and enhances the designs of on-going communication efforts including press releases, public service announcements, advertisements, and publications.

18.

Serves as the District’s photographer; photographs students and teachers in classrooms and school events to establish district stock photo collection and to enhance various communications.

19.

Assists in the planning and implementation of special projects such as bond election campaigns, groundbreakings, building dedications, convocation, retirement and staff service recognition, and awards.

20.

Develops and disseminate communication products to support special projects, such as bond election campaigns, groundbreakings, building dedications, convocation, retirement and staff service recognition, and awards.

21.

Provides internal and external support for the Key Communicators designated at each campus.

        22.

Prepares and develops media materials for video, audio, photographic, slides and multimedia applications.

        23.

Provides support to the TISD Foundation as needed.

       24.

Prepares purchase orders for the Communications and TISD TV budget accounts, including maintaining itemized spreadsheets as needed.

       25.

Serves as liaison with campus principals to create school-related publications.

       26.

Participate in professional development programs to improve job performance.

       27.

Perform duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics.

       28.

Uses technology to articulate to the general public the school district's mission and goals.

       29.

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and assigned.

       30.

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

 

Independent Decisions: Independent judgment expected with moderate supervision. 
 

Equipment Used: Computers, printers, scanners, FAX, copiers, spell check devices, video and still cameras, and other technology/media equipment.

Mental Demands:
  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal, electronic, and written); maintain emotional control under stress; ability to operate computer and other technologies listed; ability to evaluate instructional materials, speak in public, design and organize training materials and to schedule multiple tasks.

Physical Demands:  Moderate standing, sitting, stooping, bending and lifting; repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer.  Occasional assistance in laboratory installation and configuration; close work with a variety of electronic equipment. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel.
