587 STAFF ACCOUNTANT


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Bachelor's degree; CPA preferred

  2. Two years of accounting experience, preferably in a public education environment.

  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Paygrade 1 Estimated 226 days;  Wage hour status:  Exempt


 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.      

Responsible for all purchase orders, direct pay requests and budget transfers.

2.      

Responsible for Texas Sales Tax - compliance and quarterly reporting.

3.      

Sell parking permits and maintain records.

4.      

Prepare reports for each sporting event held.

5.      

Maintain textbook records; collect and receipt money for lost and damaged textbooks.

6.      

Responsible for planning and monitoring budgets, including FTE's.

7.      

Responsible for verifying and submitting payroll documentation.

8.      

Responsible for managing campus and student activity accounts.

9.     

Train campus personnel on policies and procedures for fiscal transactions.

10.    

Responsible for ensuring that proper policies and procedures are being followed.

11.    

Responsible for appropriate cash management and deposit procedures.

12.    

Responsible for monthly distribution of reports to campus personnel regarding the accounts for which they are responsible (general fund and activity).

13.    

Assist campus personnel in accomplishing their goals by facilitating their financial transactions.

14.    

Responsible for managing checking account - issuing checks, submitting timely replenishment requests, and ensuring that a positive cash balance is always maintained.

15.    

Responsible for reconciling bank accounts and general ledger accounts.

16.    

Coordinates accounting function with Financial Services in Administration.

17.    

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position as may be assigned.

18.    

Maintains positive and cooperating working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

19.    

Is prompt and timely in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

20.    

Has regular attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.

21.    

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

22.    

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

23.    

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

24.    

Performs duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics.
       25. Adheres to the district's safety policies and procedures.
       26. Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
       27. Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.
       28. Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Uses computer, typewriter, printer, copier, FAX, calculator, and telephone.                       

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to perform basic arithmetic and to compile statistical data; maintain emotional control under stress. 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer terminal;  works with many interruptions.
