QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Bachelor's degree
2.  Social Service Work experience preferred
3.  Bilingual required
4.  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate. 

SUPERVISES:  NA

JOB GOAL:   Implement a program which enables Hispanic 9th graders to successfully move on to 10th grade.  
                       
                      **Job Demands:  Will require flexible hours


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 1, 197 days


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    

 

             1.  Make parent contact/follow-up for children whose school attendance is irregular; tracking students 
                  who withdraw.        
             2.  Use data to identify students at-risk of not promoting to the next grade level.
             3.  Maintain summer contact with students to insure successful transition to the next grade level.
             4.  Work with feeder schools to ensure effective transitions to high school.
             5.  Maintain relationships with community provider organizations and remain informed of services available to students
                  and  parents. May involve membership on local social service boards or committees with approval of supervisor.
             6.  Make home visits to gather information relating to students.
             7.  Consult with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine cause of student problems and effective                     solutions.

 

 

  8.  Comply with policies established be federal law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in
       pursuing the mission of the school district.
  9.  Keep informed about new state and federal guidelines and law. 

 

10. Work collaboratively as a liaison with the administrative, teaching, and counseling staff to connect parts as support
       systems for struggling students.
11.  Explain to parents how the U.S. school system works.
12.  Discover and address parents' questions about school.
13.  Help parents partner with teachers.
14.  Help guide families through the transitional first year in high school.
15.  Identify first-year high school freshmen who demonstrate being at risk of poor academic
       performance  that can lead to dropping out of school.
16.  Collaborate with parents during academic counseling sessions in the home language.
17.  Coordinate academic efforts during the summer to keep students connected to the school.
18.  Develop and implement family and community outreach program.
19.  Empower parents and families so they become more engaged in high school completion.
20.  Train parents to access school resources.
21.  Implement program activities, which educate parents on their responsibility in the educational process.
22.  Develop activities that enhance the probability of students being ready to be promoted to the next grade.
23.  Assist students and families with the essential skills needed to be successful in school.
24.  Collect, maintain and disseminate data for evaluation reports.
25.  Facilitate the district’s mission by working with families and community resources so students are adequately prepared to
       be promoted to the next grade.
26.  Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
27.  Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code.

 

28.  Use information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.

 

29.  Maintain confidentiality of information.

 

30.  Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

 

31.  Perform other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

       

Equipment Used:
Computer, copier, fax, related office equipment, and personal vehicle.

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate several requests simultaneously.

Physical Demands: Moderate standing, sitting, stooping, bending and lifting; repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
