REPORTS TO: Executive Director, CTF and Director of Camp Tyler

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree, Preferred

  2. Five years of successful teaching experience with substantial experience (5 or more years) in outdoor (s)

  3. Elementary or Secondary Certification

  4. Past success in development, implementation and delivery of innovative outdoor educational programs.

  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

SUPERVISES:

  1. Supervises CTF educational professionals and instructors

  2. Assist TISD director in supervision of TISD instructional program

  3. Assists TISD director in supervision of assigned campus staff


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2; 232 days; Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Provide enhancements for and assist in expansion of utilization of TISD outdoor learning programs.

2.       

Promote regional understanding and develop relationships in the advancement of outdoor learning and innovative educational programming with strong focus on 5th grade residential camps.

3.       

Market outdoor educational programs and provide custom program refinements for TISD and East Texas education professionals, schools and school districts and systems.

4.       

Develop, implement and ensure delivery of innovative outdoor educational programs which achieve national recognition for TISD and CTF.

5.       

Direct all CTF specific outdoor educational programming.

6.       

Develop and provide CTF outdoor learning training (in service and pay for knowledge programs) for certified education professionals, instructors, and staff.

7.       

Assist in strategic and master facilities planning efforts to CTF.

8.       

Assist in fund raising endeavors of CTF.

9.       

Provide representation and presentations to appropriate state and national outdoor learning organizations.

10.     

Over time, conduct research and provide publications in outdoor learning and innovative educational programs in nationally referred journals.

Promotes a positive, caring climate for learning

12.     

Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

13.     

Has a clear sense of the school’s mission and assists in involving the staff in planning and decision-making in order to accomplish the mission.

14.

15.     

Participates in collaborative process to develop campus improvement plans and campus plans of action with staff, parents, and community members.

16.     

Assists principals in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

17.     

Assists in planning and conducting staff development activities.

18.     

Encourages and supports the development on innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.

19.     

Facilitates the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

20.     

Assists the principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.

21.     

Confers and encourages staff regarding their professional growth opportunities.

22.   

Assists teachers who need help in methodology, classroom management, and locating and obtaining instructional materials as needed.

       23.

Secures consultants, specialists, and other community resources for principal, and supervised instructional staff to assist in attaining objectives.
24. Works with colleges/universities, campus level teachers, and Exe3cuitive Director of Curriculum and Instruction in coordinating student teacher and teacher internships.
25. Observes employee performance, records observations and conducts evaluation conferences with staff with staff.
26. Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations, in pursuing the mission of the school.
27. Works with faculty in compiling annual budget requests based upon documented program needs.
28. Demonstrates responsible fiscal control over assigned program budgets.
29. Assists in the administration of the daily organization of the school, including class scheduling, teachers assignments and substitutes.
30. Provides input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
31. Is prompt and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
32. Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.
33. Participates in professional activities which lead to improved job performance.
34. Performs duties in a professional , ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.
35. Articulates the school's mission to the community and solicits its support in realizing the mission.
36. Demonstrates awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to
meet those identified needs.
37. Uses appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
38. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and assigned.
39. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), coordinate campus instructional programs, maintain emotional control under stress.
40. Occasional travel, occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress;

Physical Demands:  Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to lift 50 pounds weight, walk five miles and work in outdoor extremes of heat, cold and humidity. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions.
