579 - Educational Audiologist

QUALIFICATIONS:        

 

  1. Master’s Degree in Audiology from an accredited college or university

  2. State License in Audiology or certificate of clinical competence in Audiology from ASHA

  3. Adequate knowledge of all aspects of total communication

  4. High level of expertise in diagnostic procedures

  5. Thorough knowledge of current instrumentation

  6. At least one year of clinical and/or public school audiology, preferred

  7. Previous experience in area of pediatric audiology, preferred

  8. Such alternatives as to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate

 

REPORTS TO:          Director of Special Education and Regional Day School Program for the Deaf Coordinator

 

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To provide audiological services necessary for students to access educational programs pursuant to IDEA-B and IDEA-C Regulations


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 2, 187 days Wage/hour Status:  Exempt


                                                           

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district and the Special Education Department.

  1.  

Maintains a positive and effective relationship with supervisors and colleagues and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

  1.  

Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  1.  

Effectively communicates with colleagues, students, and parents.

  1.  

Completes audiologic assessments as required by TEA guidelines

  1.  

Completes hearing aid evaluations to determine effectiveness of amplification.

  1.  

Assists the parents in the procurement of personal hearing aids.

  1.  

Provide hearing aid checks including electroacoustic analysis of personal hearing aids.

  1.  

Maintain loaner hearing aid bank.

  1.  

Provide hearing aid repair and earmold service.

  1.  

Supervise the maintenance and use of classroom auditory training units.

  1.  

Counsel children and parents on hearing loss and rehabilitation of hearing losses.

  1.  

Serve as a resource person to school personnel through in-service, interpretation of hearing tests, and ways to serve students in the regular classroom.

  1.  

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.

  1.  

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Educational rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school.

  1.  

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies concerning Special Education and Audiology.

  1.  

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.

  1.  

Uses information provided through the district appraisal process to improve performance.

  1.  

Plans and assists in the implementation of appropriate staff development programs.

  1.  

Articulates the district mission to the community; solicits its support in realizing the mission.

  1.  

Demonstrates awareness of school-community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs.

  1.  

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

  1.  

Be accountable to Special Education Director and Regional Day School Program for the Deaf Coordinator for knowledge and compliance with appropriate laws, district policies and procedures, and verbal and written directives.

  1.  

Advises Director of Special Education of potential problems and cooperates in problem-solving.

  1.  

Works closely with parents and community to better the school’s capability to serve the needs of students.

  1.  

Supervises non-certified personnel and/or practicum students from the University program.

  1.  

Selects and requisitions equipment and/or materials in accordance with established budgetary procedures.

  1.  

Participates in departmental meetings and attend activities pertinent to school district operations.

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, fax and related office equipment and audiological equipment.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; work cooperatively with others.
Physical Demands: Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; prolonged and irregular hours; regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.
