578 - Head Start Nutrition Coordinator

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   

  1. Bachelor Degree

  2. Licensed Nutritionist, Preferred

  3. Experience in working with low-income families.

  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Policy Council and the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

 

REPORTS TO:          Head Start Director

 

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. Responsible for the implementation of the nutrition component of the Head Start Program Performance Standards, which includes the new transportation guidelines (height/weight assessments).


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 1, 192 days Wage/hour Status:  Exempt


                                                               

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  
Promote comprehensive wellness of Head Start children through services including; screenings, referrals, nutrition workshops and training opportunities.

Convey nutrition information at parent and staff meetings, as needed.
  1.  
Accurately data enter nutrition information collected from campuses into Child Plus software program.
  1.  
Work cooperatively with Head Start staff, to include Administrative team, Coordinators and other district staff members.
  1.  
Complete and maintain current and accurate records of child nutrition information, to include filing appropriate documents and correspondence in children's files on a regular basis, as needed.

Document pertinent contacts with families.
  1.  
Keep the Director informed of daily and weekly nutrition activities.
  1.  
Maintain confidentiality of all campus and office information.
  1.  
Turn in payroll, mileage reimbursement and other required information according to established procedures and deadlines.
  1.  
Serve as an advocate for Head Start children and their families in the area of nutrition.
  1.  
Attend regularly scheduled meetings.
  1.  
Collaborate and follow-up regarding the needs of individual families.
  1.  
Able to maintain emotional control under stress.
  1.  
Willing to work prolonged and irregular hours at times.
  1.  
Work in environments that includes in the office.

Assess the nutritional needs of the children from information provided by the families, health records, Head Start staff and other health professionals, help parents and staff develop plans for the nutrition program from the information provided.

Plan and implement nutrition education, counseling, and support for children, parents and staff.
  1.  
Conduct an On-Site visit to all centers (s) two (2x) before the end of the calendar school year.
  1.  
Provide assistance to teachers and Educational Coordinator in providing nutrition, as well as, cultural nutritional related learning activities in the classroom.
  1.  
Collaborate with school Food Service to meet the needs of Head Start children.
  1.  
Plan snack menus and review menus for compliance with the USDA Child Care Food Program requirements.
  1.  
Interprets Head Start nutrition service philosophy.
  1.  
Participating in the program's self-assessment process.
  1.  
Graph Head Start students' growth charts (height and weights).
  1.  
Works with and utilizes community resources for teachers, staff, parents and children.
  1.  
Service will be provided on a flexible schedule to accommodate the times when families are able to meet with the nutrition services provider. A minimum of 16 hours will be allotted per week for provision of these services.  This time includes staff/in-service meetings, office time and work done off-site. Mandatory training will be paid at the agreed upon rate if it exceeds 16 hours per week.

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school district.

Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.

EQUIPMENT USED: Computer, copier, fax and related office equipment scale, glucometer, HemoCue, and staid-o-meter.
Working Conditions: Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; work cooperatively with others.
Physical Demands: Moderate standing, stooping, bending and lifting; may be required to lift and transfer students to and from wheelchair or assist with positioning students with physical disabilities; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordinator simultaneously. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel.
