751 - Licensed Vocational Nurse/Clinic Nurse


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. Licensed Vocational Nurse from an accredited college.

  3. Three years clinical experience in vocational nursing; preferably pediatrics, trauma, critical care or medical/surgical, preferred

  4. Computational, organizational, and communication skills, preferred

  5. Desire to work with children

REPORTS TO:                     Principal

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To provide direct health care to students including first aid and mandated screening.

  2. To promote health education and preventive health practices for students and staff.

  3. To serve as a health advocate for students.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Paygrade  4 Estimated   185   days;   estimated 8 hours  daily


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Provide first aid and treatment to sick or injured students and school personnel.

  1.  

Maintain a permanent health record for each student as established by Health services.

  1.  

Insure that students meet immunization requirements defined by state law.

  1.  

Follow procedures for the administration, safety and security of medications, first aid supplies and equipment.

  1.  

Maintain the first aid supplies and equipment to provide for the needs of the students and staff, making requests to the Coordinator of Health Services.

  1.  

Perform screening programs as mandated by state law, for vision, hearing and spinal screening.

  1.  

Record all clinic activity in the clinic log and medication log and record information as directed
by the Coordinator of Health Services for Worker’s Compensation injuries.

  1.  

Assist with the orientation of new students and parents with requirements of the law regarding immunizations, medications and communicable disease.

  1.  

Foster collegiality and team work among school personnel.  

  1.  

Communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, community and project a positive image or school health services.

  1.  

Be knowledgeable and comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

  1.  

Be aware of community resources and help families use resources to meet medical needs.

  1.  

Participate in Professional Growth as mandated by district policy.

  1.  

Attend all staff meetings and in-service as directed by Principal and Coordinator of Health Services.

  1.  

Attend continuing education programs as required to maintain licensure for the State Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners.

  1.  

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities a related to the position and may be assigned

  1.  

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

  1.  

Is prompt and timely in completing daily tasks.

  1.  

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.

  1.  

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

Maintains confidentiality regarding any matter impacting personnel in the conduct of district business.

Complies with district policies, as well as sate and federal laws and regulations.

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.

 

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Uses computer, audiometer, CPR dummy, and medical equipment available in clinic. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress. 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Frequent use of computer terminal; works with constant interruptions.  May be asked to accompany students to hospital or physician’s office in an emergency.  Biological exposure to bacteria, communicable diseases and blood-borne pathogens possible.  Periodically transport equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.  Must be able to bend and lift equipment and/or students using appropriate techniques.
