733-A Communications Assistant/Secretary


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED           

  2. Demonstrates interest in and aptitude for work to be performed

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency         

  4. Have clerical/secretarial experience or background

  5. Have experience related to working with students or parents

REPORTS TO:                Director of Communications

 

JOB GOALS:

  1. Promote Tyler ISD and to contribute special events, lead campaigns, and disseminate information through the media and other communication outlets.

  2. This role includes working with the media and Channel 19 on a daily basis in promoting district activities. Coordinating events such as the United Way campaign are also a primary function.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade 4  Estimated 228  days; estimated  8 hours daily Wage/hour status:  Nonexempt  


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.    

Develop publicity opportunities at the district and campus levels for media and department of communications.

2.    

Manage financial aspect of large campaigns such as United Way and United Negro College Fund, Texas Public Schools Week.

3.    

Develop and distribute information for Tyler ISD website, press releases, and Channel 19.

4.    

Serves as photographer for numerous campus/district events.

5.    

Uses Adobe software for creating special publications (Pagemaker, PhotoShop, Illustrator).

6.    

Users other software programs as needed for document/visual production.

7.    

Assumes responsibility for assigned areas of projects/publications.

8.    

Co-anchors and anchors programs on Channel 19 as requested.

9.    

Services as communications liaison when appropriate.

10. 

Uses scanner and digital camera on regular basis.

11. 

Works with campuses and community as requested by Director.

12. 

Assists with evening campus/district projects as requested by Director.

13. 

Answer phones.

14. 

Prepare and communicate district news, successes and events to the local media.

15. 

Coordinate special events and district wide functions.

16. 

Develop publicity opportunities at the district and campus levels for media and department.

Operate technology including camera and television broadcasting equipment for district.

18. 

Develop marketing strategies for district wide campaigns and events.

19. 

Manage financial aspect of large campaigns such as United Way and United Negro College Fund, Texas Public Schools Week.

20. 

Assist office of superintendent as administrative assistant substitute.

21. 

Design marketing material and promotional items utilizing PC and additional software.

22. 

Operate fundraising and sponsorships for major district wide events and functions.

23. 

Develop and communicate publicity database for dissemination through Cable Channel 19.

24. 

Arrange meetings and communication efforts with principals and instructional consultants to address media and publicity efforts.

25. 

Manage content on bulletin portion of Cable Channel 19.

26. 

Assist Director of Communications in developing communication and branding strategies.

27. 

Developed a digital photo archive for district.

28. 

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor; performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

29. 

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

30. 

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

31. 

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

33. 

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

                Uses calculator, digital camera, scanner, copier, typewriter, computer, fax machine, Ellison Die, laminator, and A-V
                 equipment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; ability to perform basic arithmetic. 

            Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:  Moderate standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting; work with frequent interruptions; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
