732 INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT, PLYLER ALTERNATIVE CAMPUS/ IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. High school diploma or GED           

  2. Demonstrates interest in and aptitude for work to be performed

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency

  4. Desire and ability to work with children

  5. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

  6. Have experience related to working with students or parents

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist teachers to establish student self-esteem, good foundation for life skills, and socialization skills.  


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade 2 Estimated 185 days;   estimated  8 hours daily Wage/hour status:  Non-exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.    

Maintain front desk; answer phones; assist parents and students; write passes for appointments.

2.    

Check daily roll, enroll new students; withdraw students who have completed their time and tasks.

3.    

Monitor attendance daily.

4.    

Inform teachers, appropriate administrators, and parents of student behavior.

5.    

Establish and maintain a positive rapport with students and parents.

6.    

Request records as needed from other schools and districts.

7.    

Transfer records as needed.

8.    

Maintain student records and update records as needed.

9.    

Maintain lunch count information and data.

10. 

Assist parents in completing enrollment information.

11. 

Supervise students during restroom and lunch breaks.

12. 

Monitor classroom behavior by walking around.

13. 

Maintain discipline records and input them in the computer.

14. 

Complies with directions and instructions such responsibilities as may be assigned.

15. 

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conducting of district business.

16. 

Demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

17. 

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

18. 

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

Provides complete and accurate information in conducting of district business.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: In order to effectively do the job, you must have the ability to read; the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); the ability to motivate the slow or reluctant student tom complete assigned work; the ability to maintain emotional control under the stress of disciplining students; and the ability to work with emotionally disturbed and physically disabled students all day in an isolated location.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: The job involves moderate standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting. There is also possible exposure to violent student behavior.
