730B Police Dispatcher


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. High school diploma.

  2. Minimum of 15 hours of college in related field of study to include business management and computer science; 3 years of general clerical/secretarial experience; or equivalent business school background

  3. Valid Texas driver's license

  4. At least one year experience in working with staff, parents, and students.

  5. Keyboarding and computer proficiency

  6. Computer, organizational, and communication skills.

REPORTS TO:                     Police Chief

JOB GOAL(S):                 

Coordinate assignments and calls of police officers and vehicles for calls to schools, and coordinate these calls with Tyler Police and Fire as needed.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade 4 Estimated 226 days;   estimated  8 hours daily Wage/hour status:  Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  
Answer incoming telephone calls for service/questions.
  1.  
Maintain a daily case log for assignment of case numbers for officers as needed.
  1.  
Dispatch officers and vehicles to calls via two-way radio and telephone.
  1.  
Keep a daily log of calls and stats for use in reporting the Uniform Crime Reports to the State of Texas.
  1.  
Take fingerprints of district employees as required by the Human Resources Department.
  1.  
Act as administrative assistant for the Police Department.
  1.  
Coordinate calls with the Tyler Police and Fire as needed.
  1.  
Work with alarm company on alarms, work orders when necessary.
  1.  
Maintain good public relations with students and school personnel.
  1.  
Maintain and update files and forms as required by the department.
  1.  
Prepare various reports and communications as needed.
  1.  
Complete the Uniform Crime Report
  1.  
Enter work orders for the department as needed.
   14. Maintain records and submit monthly payroll reports for the department.
   15. Maintain records and submit pay sheets to the accounting department for Tyler police officers and other agencies performing security duties at TISD events.
   16. Enter purchase orders as needed.

                Two-way radio equipment, computer and software, phone system, fax machines, 10 key calculator

WORKING CONDITIONS:

                Mental Demands/Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:  Ability to cope with high stress incidents as they occur and calm and assure the caller that the situation is being handled. Ability to handle irate parents and/or out-of-control students. Ability to handle multiple phone lines; Ability to monitor and respond to police radio and transportation department radios.
