716 PHYSICAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate;

  2. Have experience related to working with students or parents;

  3. Desire and ability to work with students in a physical education setting, and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.

  4. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or

    pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

 

REPORTS TO:            Building Principal and PE Teacher         

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist the physical education teacher (s) as assigned

  2. To assist in the office, cafeteria, and bus area as assigned

  3. To assist the teachers and students as requested


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade1   Estimated 185  days;   estimated 8 hrs daily Wage/hour status:  nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Gather equipment necessary for each class.

  1.  

Discipline children while teacher is giving instructions.

  1.  

Relieve teacher temporarily, when needed.

  1.  

Explain skills and techniques daily for playing games.

  1.  

Maintain a clean, organized office.

  1.  

Provide children with eating utensils.

  1.  

Discipline children while eating in cafeteria.

  1.  

Clean table tops and pick up trash, as necessary

  1.  

Mop, sweep floors, as required.

  1.  

Assist office secretaries by performing copy work, putting up mail, filing.

  1.  

Laminate material for teachers.

  1.  

Change bulletin boards for different seasons, as requested.

  1.  

Provide a safe environment while children load onto buses or into cars.

  1.  

Be sure children walk on sidewalks and do not run.

  1.  

Sit with classes while teachers are away from the classroom.

  1.  

Participate in inservice programs.

  1.  

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

  1.  

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

  1.  

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

  1.  

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification  procedures.

  1.  

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

  1.  

Assist students in Content Mastery classroom, when assigned.

  1.  

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

  1.  

Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

  1.  

Participates in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

    28. If applicable, input, verify, or update PEIMS information as assigned by supervisor.

 

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Uses wall gym, tumbling mat, outside playground bars, balance equipment, scooter boards, and portable volleyball poles.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional
control under stress

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, lifting.
