713A LIBRARY AIDE, MEDIA (SECONDARY)


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate;

  2. Have experience related to working with students or parents;

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency and computation skills preferred;

  4. Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.

REPORTS TO:            Building Principal and Librarian         

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist the librarian, teachers, and students in the library.

  2. To organize, circulate, and maintain all audio/visual equipment.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade 1
Estimated 185 days; estimated 8 hrs daily
Wage/hour status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

  1.  

Maintain daily records of all equipment leaving or entering the building.

  1.  

Order repairs when service to equipment is required.

  1.  

Maintain equipment for teachers to include replacing bulbs.

  1.  

Maintain inventory records of audio visual equipment, making sure enough equipment is available.

  1.  

Order all media (VHS, film strips, sound film, books) from the Instructional Resource Center for teachers.

  1.  

Maintain records of when equipment is returned by the teacher and IRC.

  1.  

Deliver media orders.

  1.  

Supervise library student workers.

  1.  

Maintain three separate calendars to ensure each teacher receives the proper equipment for media order on requested date.

  1.  

Assist students locate books teachers have requested, teach students how to use the card catalog and review students in the use of the Dewey Decimal system.

  1.  

Assist students to use the computer to locate books by name, title, or author.

  1.  

Assist teachers by readying reference materials for use in the library or classroom.

  1.  

Assist in disciplining the students to maintain proper behavior in the library, as needed.

  1.  

Maintain accurate records of library books checked in and out by student and staff on computer.

  1.  

Organize, circulate, and maintain collection of videos.

  1.  

Assist teachers, as needed, with students in computer programs, supervision, and discipline.

  1.  

Start computers and boot edunetics system every day.

  1.  

Order all library supplies, as requested.

  1.  

Maintain records relating to collection of money for fines and lost books.

  1.  

Assist in preparing instructional materials for teachers to be used in the classroom.

  1.  

Laminate materials for faculty and students.

  1.  

Shelve books and keep shelves in order.

  1.  

Schedule classes coming to the library.

  1.  

Oversee students who work in the library during the day.

  1.  

Check books in and out; assist in inventory of  books.

  1.  

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

  1.  

Maintains positive ad cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

  1.  

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

  1.  

Meets attendance standards and complies with campus notification procedures for absences.

  1.  

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business. 

  1.  

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

  1.  

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and guidelines.

  1.  

Participates in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events assigned.
