712 & 714 KINDERGARTEN/ EARLY CHILDHOOD INSTRUCTIONAL


 

QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate;

  2. Have experience related to working with students or parents;

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency,  preferred

  4. Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.

REPORTS TO:        Building Principal, Supervising Teacher, Librarian             

JOB GOALS:                 

  1. To assist teachers in their efforts to provide meaningful experiences for kindergarten students in the instructional area and through the use of  resource materials.

  2. Help kindergarten children develop to their fullest potential.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade1

Estimated 185  days;   estimated 4 , 6, or 8 hrs daily


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.

Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments, when assigned.

Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.

Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

Maintain a filing system (writing portfolio, assessment, transportation)

Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.

 
  1.  

Provide individual instruction and assistance in using library media center resources including computers and audiovisual equipment.

 
  1.  

Shelve incoming books, materials, and equipment.

 
  1.  

Ready materials for classroom or reserve collection use as requested by teachers.

 
  1.  

Request and schedule use of materials from outside sources.

 
  1.  

Prepare bulletin boards and displays and assist the librarian in preparing instructional materials.

 
  1.  

Read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.

 
  1.  

Operate the media center automated circulation system.

 
  1.  

Collect and maintain records of student fines and prepare parent notification as needed.

Receive and process books, materials, and equipment and reconcile with packing slips and invoices.

Repair books, magazines, materials, and equipment or process for repair at outside facilities.

 
  1.  

Perform routine maintenance on audiovisual equipment.

 
  1.  

Assist in the annual inventory and weeding of library media center materials.

Conduct instructional excises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.

Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.  This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

In the cafeteria, provide children with eating utensils; monitor good behavior, clean table tops and pick up trash; mop and/or sweep floors if necessary.

Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
