706 Head Start Bilingual Classroom/Office Assistant/Parent Liaison


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Be a high school graduate or hold a GED certificate;

  2. Have experience related to working with students or parents;

  3. Keyboarding and computer proficiency preferred;

  4. Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.

  5. Ability to write and speak  fluently in English and Spanish.

  6. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or

    pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

     

REPORTS TO:            Head Start Director         

JOB GOALS:

  1. To assist the teacher with the daily instructional process in the areas of  education, mental/physical health, nutrition, social, emotional, and parental involvement.

  2. To assist the teacher in other areas as needed.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Clerical/Technical Paygrade1    Estimated 185 or 205  days;   estimated 8 hrs daily  Wage/hour status:  nonexempt

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.

Assist the Head Start teacher in planning and implementing the educational activities in the classroom, including demonstrating the preparation of cultural dishes from the basic food groups, cultural games, activities, dances, and unit of study.

2.

Assists the students with understanding the rules for organized games and structured activities, eating family style, using manipulatives, and any other special needs.

3.

Assist the students in toileting, tooth brushing, assistance in the cafeteria, at rest time, outdoors, morning exercises, etc.

4.

Speak, write, and read the Spanish language for the classroom and office; translate as requested.

5.

Under the direct supervision of the teacher, accept assignments and follow directions assigned by the campus principal and administrative staff.

6.

Assist with recruiting and enrolling students into the Head Start Program.

7.

Attend office staff meetings, in-service training, and staff development, as assigned.

8.

Assist in making home visits and providing services for the children and their families.

9.

Demonstrates the ability to work directly with teachers,  children, and parents; encourages parents as volunteers.

10.

Demonstrates a willingness to continue to learn and expand skills and techniques in working with young children.

11.

Assist in supervising the children throughout the day, both inside and outside the classroom with mealtime activities and personal hygiene/grooming.

12.

Works with individual children or small groups to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, keeping the teacher informed of any special needs of  individual children.

13.

Assists in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

14.

Assists with office activities, i.e., Keyboarding, filing, preparing reports, duplicating, laminating, and the ordering, pick-up, delivery, and dissemination of supplies, if  needed.

15.

Periodically accompany the case managers and/or transport students (upon driver approval) to medical and dental services to assist with translation; assist with translation during individualized instruction and reinforcement, if requested by the teacher.

16.

Assist the children entering and leaving the campus/center and during fieldtrips, maintaining control at all times.

17.

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor; performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

18.

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

19.

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

20.

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

21.

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

22.

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

23.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

24.

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

25.

Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

26.

Participates in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

27. If applicable, input, verify, or update PEIMS information as assigned by supervisor.

 

EQUIPMENT USED: Uses calculator, copier, typewriter, computer, fax machine.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) ; maintain emotional control under stress.

Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:  Moderate standing, walking, stooping, bending, and lifting. work with frequent interruptions; repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer.
