701 - Child Care Instructional Assistant


QUALIFICATIONS:        

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

  2. Child Development Associate Certificate preferred; or willing to work toward obtaining the certification

  3. Must have some kind of experience with children.

  4. To comply with the "No Child Left Behind" requirements, at least 48 semester hours of college credit or pass a rigorous test to be administered through Region VII.

REPORTS TO:                    Child Care Manager           

 

JOB GOALS:                      

  1. Provide the children a healthy and safe environment.

  2. Give the children the opportunity to develop stable caring relationships

  3. Provide an environment that fosters cognitive, social and emotional growth.

  4. Provides work assignments for instructional aides..


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will);Clerical/Technical   Paygrade 3 
      Estimated 185 days;   estimated 8 hours daily
Wage/Hour Status:  Non-exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 

1.       

Know and be aware of the object and purpose of the minimum of standards; and ensure that they are complied with.

2.       

Report suspected abuse and neglect to the D.H.S. and to law enforcement as required by the Texas Family Code.

3.      

Supervise children at all times.

4.      

Demonstrate physical, emotional, and intellectual competencies necessary for self-control and good judgment when performing assigned responsibilities.

5.      

Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their cultures.

6.      

Interact frequently with children, showing affection, interest, and respect.

7.      

Develop lesson plans appropriate for age groups.

8.      

Confer with parents who express complaints or concerns verbally or in writing.

9.      

Keep Manager informed of changing needs and concerns within area of responsibility.

10.  

Comply with directions and instructions from Manager/Director and perform other tasks and assume such responsibilities as may be assigned.

11.

Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrate team work in daily activities.

12.

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing required training assignments, and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

13.

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.

14.

Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of the Child Care  or district business.

15.

Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulation.

16.

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

17.

Participates in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
18. Participates in meetings and special events as assigned.
19. If applicable, input, verify, or update PEIMS information as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Typewriter, copier, laminating machine, and child care equipment. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands: Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written); maintain emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Lifting and standing most of the day; bending and stooping. 

Training: Must obtain at least 20 clock hours of training annually, exclusive of CPR and First Aid Training.
