892 ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. Valid Texas drivers license

  3. Valid licenses pertaining to Intercom & Fire Alarm preferred

  4. Knowledge of electronic circuits and wiring and operating principles of electronic controls

  5. Knowledge of local electrical codes

  6. Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material

  7. Ability to perform mathematical calculations

  8. Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

  9. Ability to use hand and power tools

  10. Five years experience in electronics field

REPORTS TO:        MAINTENANCE FOREMAN

JOB GOALS:

Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install electronic systems, services, and equipment for the district.  Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all electronic fixtures and systems in district facilities, including but not limited to, Intercom systems, Bell systems, Fire Alarm systems, and Athletic Scoreboards.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 7; Estimated 232 days; estimated 8 hours daily Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.         

Install and repair wiring, electronic fixtures, electronic equipment, and components of machinery and equipment    following code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.

2.         

Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, thermostats, circuit-breaker panels, etc.

3.         

Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.

4.         

Diagnose and resolve problems in electronic circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment

5.         

Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.

6.         

Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threaders, and conduit bender.

7.         

Repair recommended replacement of electronic appliances, including, Intercoms, Fire Alarms, Bell systems and Athletic Scoreboards.

8.         

Receive and complete work orders.

9.         

Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

10.      

Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.

11.      

Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials.

12.      

Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.

13.      

Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment, following established inspection procedures.

14.      

Respond to emergency calls as needed.

15.      

Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

16.      

Operate tools and equipment according to established procedures.

17.      

Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

18.      

Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

19.      

Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

20.      

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor; performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

21.      

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities.

22.      

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

23.      

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.

24.      

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

25.      

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

26.      

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:
Multimeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, and testing equipment; soldering iron; wire puller; pipe benders and threaders; hand and power tools (saw, drills, etc.); trencher; jackhammer; concrete saw; ladder.  Light truck or van.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental demands: Reading, ability to understand written and verbal instructions. 

Physical Demand/Environmental Factors:  Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying.  Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, around electrical power lines, outside and inside.  Exposure to extreme temperatures.  Frequent districtwide travel.
