885 LEAD MECHANIC SHOP FOREMAN


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Fifteen years verifiable experience as a mechanic 

  3. Experience and knowledge in the operation and repair of department equipment, including buses, trucks, vans, tractors (gas and diesel), small engines, trimmers, chain saws, blowers, mowers (several types), trailers and backhoes.

  4. Experience must include hydraulics, air brakes and control systems.

  5. State vehicle inspection certification

  6. A valid Texas CDL with bus driver certification

  7. Pass annual TEA/DOT physical

  8. Acceptable driving/criminal history.

  9. Willingness to work occasional overtime.

Reports to:  Director of Transportation and Bus Shop Coordinator 

Job Goal: To maintain all vehicles and ground equipment in a safe and serviceable condition. 


Terms of Employment:  Noncontractual (At-will); Manual Trades Paygrade 7;Estimated 226 days; estimated 8 hours daily.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.  

Plans and schedules daily assigned work orders (prepare materials needed and equipment required).  Maintain work orders in proper priorities.

2. 

Survey large or questionable job with Coordinator.

3.  

Observes and enforces safety standards.

4. 

Provide complete and accurate information concerning work assigned and/or completed to the dispatcher and makes good use of time.

5.  

Follows the daily work schedule and makes good use of time.

6. 

Maintains personal skills at the level required to perform major repairs on all department vehicles and vehicle components with little or no supervision.

7.  

Attends required refresher workshops and safety meetings.

8.  

Maintains a clean, safe and uncluttered work space.

9.  

Replaces parts used from service truck inventories as soon as possible.

10.

Minimize road-call down time by accurately diagnosing problems and performing needed repairs without delay.
    11. Assists driver in the transfer of students to a relief bus and in getting route back in service when justified by lengthy repairs.
   12. Records all relevant information on repair orders in a readable fashion.
   13. Maintains personal qualifications for driving school buses.
   14. Acts as substitute bus driver or monitor, when needed.
   15. Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.
  16. Maintains positive and cooperative working relationship with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.
    17. Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.
     18. Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

21. 

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

Continues professional growth by attending workshops and classes.

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Manual and power tools to operate and repair department equipment, school bus, fuel monitoring system, and computer.

Physical Demands/Environment Factors:

Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual tasks and body movement, including strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.  Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders, work alone.
