878 PRINTER/CRAFTSMAN/TYPESETTER


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Record of experience with demonstrated competence for digital reproduction, typesetting and graphic arts procedures

  3. Demonstrates interest and a positive attitude conducive to work assignments

  4. Ability to grow professionally

  5. Mathematical, communication, spelling and punctuation skills

  6. Mechanical aptitude and excellent physical motor skills

  7. Willingness to work overtime

REPORTS TO:        COORDINATOR, PRINTSHOP

JOB GOALS:

  1. Duplicating educational and operational documents for the district

  2. Preparation of digital reproduction

  3. Assist with the process of bindery, shipping and receiving

  4. Monitor for quality controls

  5. Preventive maintenance of equipment


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 5; Estimated 226 days; estimated 8 hours daily
Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1. 

Operate equipment with a thorough goal, clear sense of direction and purpose in daily digital production demands.

2. 

Attend to assignments and details accurately and efficiently.

3. 

Evaluate and recommend improvement in the purposes, design, and implementation of the systems used in the Graphics Department.

4. 

Monitor and proofread district produced documents in digital and printed form and make recommendations for improvement.

5. 

Use graphics software to improve the quality of scanned documents from campus and administrative departments.

6. 

Set up and operate folders, collators, paper drills, paper cutters, and stapling equipment.

7. 

Package and label requested documents and materials for proper routing to destination.

8. 

Price and outsource work that can not be efficiently completed in house.

9. 

Maintain a clean and orderly work area for safety and to maximize productivity.

10.     

Designate specific assignments to proper equipment to maximize productivity.

11.     

Monitor use of production equipment to maximize productivity and minimize overage charges.

12.     

Assist campuses to better utilize their graphics production eqiupment and minimize overage charges.

13.     

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as assigned.

14.     

Maintains a positive and cooperative working relationship with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities

15.     

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

16.     

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

EQUIPMENT USED:
Digital Reproduction Equipment, folders, collators, paper drills, stapling equipment, freight dolly, paper cutters, strapping machine, copiers, and binders.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:
  Reading; ability to perform basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively (command of verbal, written, grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills); maintain emotional control under stress; mechanical aptitude. 
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 
Frequent walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling.  Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds and work around machinery with moving parts.  Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and digital chemistries.
