QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School diploma or GED

  2. Ability to assign work, instruct workers, inspect work and write reports.

  3. First Aid, Aquatic Safety, CPR knowledge and current Food/Distribution Service and Hazardous Materials Safety certification.

  4. Posses a thorough understanding of Texas Youth Camp Safety Act and County Health Code.

  5. Must be a self-starter, motivated, and willing to work for the welfare of children with the help of children.

  6. Willingness to work weekends and holidays.

REPORTS TO:        CAMP DIRECTOR

JOB GOALS:

  1. To provide all students with a physical learning environment that is safe, clean, attractive, pleasant and smoothly functioning.

  2. Provide leadership in maintaining the camp/school/farm property, buildings and equipment in a condition of safety, neatness, and aesthetic attractiveness, taking measures to minimize impact of the every increasing number of visitors so that each student may be provided with an outdoor environment which is both visually pleasing and safe.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades  Paygrade: 4; Estimated  232  days;   estimated 8 hours  daily Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.         

Inspects school/campus/farm on a regular basis.  Re inspects to verify that previous deficiencies have been corrected.

2.         

Schedule, organize and supervise volunteers.

3.         

Assigns tasks to volunteers, participates in those tasks and inspects completion of work.

4.         

Instructs subordinates/volunteers in the safe and effective use of camp equipment.

5.         

Serves as emergency substitute for other adults who are in charge of children.

6.         

Resourceful, creative, and demonstrate flexibility to respond rapidly to crisis or opportunity.

7.         

Serves as natural history interpreter for groups visiting the property

8.         

Completes one week per year of professional growth training.

9.         

Operate all equipment in a safe manner

10.      

Check all systems (oil, water, fluids, etc.) regularly of equipment being operated.

11.      

Be observant of surroundings at all times when operating equipment.

12.      

Be able to identify malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action.

13.      

Participates in mowing grounds.

14.      

Assists in planting , cultivating, pruning and sowing of various trees, shrubs and seeds.

15.      

Clean school/camp grounds of trash and rubbish. (Assigned acreage)

16.      

Observes all health hazards and warnings.

17.      

Purchase supplies and equipment as needed.

18.      

In all maintenance procedures minimize cost and uphold a policy of preventative maintenance.

19.      

Be constantly on the alert for unsafe conditions and highest priority to correction.

20.      

Change oil, filters, tune-up, grease, adjust, etc. all mechanical equipment on schedule.  Keep current safety inspection sticker on camp motor vehicles.

21.      

Winterize all exterior plumbing and machinery whenever freezing conditions are predicted.

22.      

Follows the daily work schedule carefully and keeps busy.

23.      

Performs other tasks as assigned by the Camp Director.

24.      

Help with skilled trades when needed.

25.      

Move furniture, etc., when needed.

26.      

Assist in any emergency repair or clean up.

27.      

Monitor traffic and motor vehicle speed of campers.

28.      

During tornado warnings escort all campers to designated shelter areas.  In case of fire, dial 911 and gather all campuses to appropriate area.

29.      

As much as is practical control poison ivy and fireants.

30.      

Remove any dead trees and/or animals within 100 feet of any building.

31.      

Remove windfalls fro roadways and trails.

32.      

Help with construction.

33.      

Keep construction site clean and orderly.

34.      

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

35.      

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

36.      

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

37.      

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

38.      

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

39.      

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

40.      

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

41.      

Demonstrates aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities and be cognizant of goof workmanship.

42.      

Maintains a clean, neat personal appearance and represents camp to the general public.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

Front end loader, bull dozer, fork lift, backhoe, box blade, tractor with mower, post hole digger or plow.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: Reading; ability to perform basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress. Ability to read basic instructions and write reports.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to lift 50 pounds weight, walk five miles and work in outdoor extremes of heat, cold and humidity. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions. Relocate to housing provided on campus; on call 24 hours a day.
