QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School diploma or GED

  2. Ability to follow verbal instructions.

  3. Demonstrates aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.

  4. Desire and ability to work with and communicate with students, parents, and other bus drivers.

  5. Current Commercial Driver’s license and bus driver certification.

  6. Negative mandatory OTETA test.

REPORTS TO:        DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION

JOB GOALS:

  1. Maintain a knowledge of assigned routes, drivers, and riders.

  2. Provide safe, efficient transportation for assigned riders.

  3. Assist director and supervisors in accomplishing department goals.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades  Paygrade: 5; Estimated  183  days;   estimated 6 1/2 hours daily



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.         

Works office assignments as assigned by the director.

2.         

Accepts responsibility for ensuring that all route reports, rider records, etc., are turned in and properly filed.

3.         

Has a working knowledge of all assigned bus routes and attendance areas.

4.         

Keeps director informed of route changes and recommends adjustments.

5.         

Teaches assigned bus routes to replacement and substitute bus drivers.

6.         

Substitutes as a bus driver whenever and wherever required.

7.         

Monitors routes with rider discipline and/or routing problems.

8.         

Assists assigned drivers in identifying troublesome.

9.         

Assists assigned drivers in properly reporting conduct infractions.

10.      

Assists assigned drivers in maintaining accurate rider records and seating assignments.

11.      

Assists director in evaluation assigned drivers.

12.      

Monitors assigned drivers in pre-trip inspection requirements and assists them in reporting vehicle deficiencies.

13.      

Relays relevant information to assigned drivers punctually and accurately.

14.      

Maintains familiarity with the geographical area of his/her kindergarten route assignment.

15.      

Observes “empty house” regulations and reports infractions before returning the rider to the school.

16.      

Observes time schedules set forth on the trip ticket.

17.      

Assists Team Leader V in all driver training and retraining.

18.      

Assists in monthly safety meetings and annual orientation staff.

19.      

Maintains accurate trip log data and turns it in promptly.

20.      

Drives safely and observes all traffic laws and driving regulations.

21.      

Is friendly and helpful toward trip sponsors and riders.

22.      

Complies with directions and instructions from Supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

23.      

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

24.      

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

25.      

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

26.      

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

        27.

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

        28.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

Operates school bus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to understand verbal instructions; maintain emotional control under stress; ability to maintain effective control over groups of students.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual tasks and body .  Works outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and vehicle fumes; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions; ability to operate motor vehicle.
