846 FARM CUSTODIAN


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School diploma or GED
  2. Ability to assign work, instruct workers, inspect work and write reports and work with others
  3. First Aid, and CPR knowledge.  Food Service and Hazardous Materials Safety certification
  4. Posses a thorough understanding of Texas Youth Camp Safety Act and County Health Code.
  5. Self-starter, motivated, and willing to work for the welfare of children with the help of children.
  6. Willing to work weekends and holidays.

REPORTS TO:        CAMP DIRECTOR

JOB GOALS:  

  1. Provide all students with a physical learning environment that is safe,     clean, attractive, pleasant and smoothly functioning.
  2. Provide leadership in maintaining the camp/school/farm property, buildings and equipment in a condition of safety, neatness, and aesthetic attractiveness, taking measures to minimize impact of the
  3. ever increasing number of visitors so that teach student may be provided with an outdoor environment which is both visually pleasing and safe.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 3; Estimated 226 days; estimated 8 hours daily Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.    

Inspects outdoor school on a regular basis.  Verifies that problems are corrected.

2.    

Does or supervises all cleaning.

3.    

Maintains inventories by building/program.

4.    

Schedule, organize and supervise volunteers.  Participates in those tasks.

5.    

Observes all health hazards and warnings.

6.    

Instructs volunteers in the safe and effective use of campus equipment.

7.    

Serves as emergency substitute for other adults who are in charge of children.

8.    

Serves as farm interpreter for visiting groups.

9.    

Resourceful and be able to improvise, demonstrates flexibility and rapid respond .

10.   

Completes one week per year of professional growth training.

11.   

Operate all equipment in a safe manner.

12.   

Check all systems (oil, water, fluids, etc.) regularly of equipment being operated.

13.   

Be observant of surroundings at all times when operating equipment.

14.   

Checks daily to insure that buildings are open or locked as the schedule dictates.

15.   

Remains on the school premises when attendance is required by the principal.

16.   

Participates in mowing grounds and other outside maintenance.

17.   

Assists in campus horticulture plan.

18.   

In all maintenance minimizes cost and upholds preventative maintenance plan.

19.   

Is constantly on the alert for unsafe conditions and highest priority to correction.

20.   

Follows the daily work schedule carefully and keeps busy.

21.   

Performs other tasks that the Camp Director may direct.

22.   

Help with skilled trades when needed.

23.   

Moves furniture, etc., when needed.

24.   

Assists in any emergency repair or clean up.

25.   

Contacts proper authorities to handle trespassers and hunters.

26.   

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with others.

27.   

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments

28.   

Meets attendance and absence notification standards.

29.   

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business

30.   

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

31.   

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

32.   

Maintains a neat personal appearance and represents camp to the general public.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

Ability to operate all types of landscape maintenance equipment including tractor and mower.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to perform basic arithmetic; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress.  Ability to read basic operating instructions. 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability of lift 50 pounds of weight, walk five miles and work in outdoor extremes of heat, cold and humidity.
