                      842-A CAFETERIA MANAGER Camp Tyler


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Successful experience as a cafeteria manager, assistant manager, or manager trainee preferred

  3. Ability to supervise and to work cooperatively with other, including, students, principals, and teachers

  4. Formal or on-the-job training, in food preparation, cooking, figuring quantities of food needed, requisitioning supplies and equipment, sanitation requirements, and safe handling of food and equipment.

  5. Knowledge of sound nutrition principles as they apply to outdoor learning.

  6. Ability and willingness to train employees assigned to the kitchen, and to work with teachers instructing healthy eating and outdoor cooking.

  7. Must able to work variable shifts, some weekends, and be willing to do different jobs if assigned.
     

REPORTS TO:        Director of Outdoor Learning at Camp Tyler

JOB GOALS:

  1. To provide high quality meals in an atmosphere of communication, cooperation, and commitment.

  2. To provide a teaching/learning environment of cleanliness, cheerfulness, and personal caring

  3. To provide this service within the Financial Limitations established by the Camp Director


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non contractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Pay grade: 3; Estimated 226 days estimated 8 hours daily; Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

  1.  

Trains new personnel and retrains current employees.

  1.  

Evaluates assigned staff according to department and District policies.

  1.  

Prepares, instructs and supervises work schedules.

  1.  

Keeps employees informed through kitchen meeting, memos, and training.

  1.  

Accurately calculates time cards and promptly submits the time cards to payroll.

  1.  

Makes menus in accordance with children’s’ needs.

  1.  

Orders Food, prepares purchase orders, and expedites payment.

  1.  

Prepares and serves food for family style meals and buffets.

  1.  

Promptly submits warehouse and bread orders to accounting

  1.  

Uses leftovers quickly, safely, attractively, and nutritiously

  1.  

Encourages and promotes good nutrition practices.

  1.  

Runs a safe and attractive Kitchen

  1.  

Maintains quality and taste to the highest degree consistent with camp tradition

  1.  

Plans and supervises cooking schedules to have food ready on time.

  1.  

Relates well to students, is polite and courteous

  1.  

Works cooperatively with teachers and principals

  1.  

Treats all employees equally

  1.  

Handles conflict in a timely manner

  1.  

Available for banquets and special functions as requested by Camp Director

  1.  

Performs Student related work as assigned by  Director of Camp Tyler

  1.  

Attends in service as assigned by Camp Director

  1.  

Kitchen meets or exceeds sanitary and safety conditions according to the Texas Health Laws, and Smith County Health Codes.

  1.  

Kitchen and serving areas free from rodents and insects

  1.  

Maintains equipment records, repairs, cleaning and temperature charts

  1.  

Is prompt in turning in needed repairs and maintenance problems

  1.  

Secures kitchen and food supplies as required

  1.  

Submits all records promptly.

  1.  

Demonstrates team work in daily activities.

  1.  

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with others in the conduct of district business.

  1.  

Is regular in attendance and complies with notification procedures for absences.

  1.  

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business

  1.  

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business

  1.  

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations

  1.  

Follows the Camp Tyler dress code; is clean, and neat in appearance

  1.  

Adheres to the district’s safety policies and procedures.

Demonstrates leadership and enthusiasm for work performed, follows oral and written instructions.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:
Uses large and small kitchen equipment to include electric slicer, mixer, pressure steamer, deep-fat fryer and sharp cutting tools; ovens; dishwashers; and food and utility carts.  Uses calculator and has extensive computer skills. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental demands: Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demand/Environmental Factors: Standing, walking, pushing, and pulling; list and carry up to 50 pounds; some stooping, bending, climbing, and kneeling. Exposure to extreme hot and/or cold temperatures and slippery floors. Exposure to elevated noise levels; dexterity to handle equipment.
