831 LEAD CUSTODIAN


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must have a High School diploma or GED.

  2. Experience  in all phases of school custodial maintenance.

  3. Ability to assign work, inspect work done, and write reports.

  4. Demonstrates ability to get along with others.

  5. Desire and ability to work with and effectively communicate with staff, students, and parents.

  6. Willingness to work occasional overtime

REPORTS TO:        DISTRICT CUSTODIAL FOREMAN

JOB GOALS: To provide all students and faculty with a physical learning environment that is clean, safe, attractive, pleasant, and smoothly functioning.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 3; Estimated 232 days; estimated 8 hours daily Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.         

Supervises custodians in keeping buildings and premises neat and clean; including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.

2.         

Assigns duties to cleaning crew and inspects completed work.

3.         

Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly.

4.         

Reports major repairs needed or damage to building promptly to the administrator in charge of maintenance.

5.         

Assumes responsibility for the opening or closing of the building each day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured and that all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.

6.         

Reports any neglect/misconduct of any custodian to principal or district foreman.

7.         

Plans summer clean-up schedule.

8.         

Assists and instructs the crew in following the daily work schedule carefully.

9.         

Communicates with principal and/or supervisor; takes care of problems in specific problem areas.

10.      

Trains subordinates to perform custodial duties as required.

11.      

Inspects areas of each custodian to insure cleaning is done properly.

12.      

Instructs crew on proper use of cleaning products to comply with safety standards.

13.      

Inspects and insures that store rooms and closets are orderly and neat.

14.      

Instructs crew on proper use of equipment, such as buffers, wet vacs, etc., to comply with safety standards.

15.      

Inspects equipment to insure it is clean and operational.  Reports needed equipment repairs to district foreman.

16.      

Prepares cleaning schedule, with assistant principal approval, for cleaning crew.

17.      

Plans work schedule for custodians to insure work is completed in areas needed on student holidays and during the summer, and administration building shutdowns.

18.      

Order supplies on a timely schedule.

19.      

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

20.      

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

21.      

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

22.      

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

23.      

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

24.      

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

25.      

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

26.      

Follows the daily work schedule and makes good use of time.

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED:
Ability to operate regular and high speed buffers, wet vac, vacuum cleaners  and carpet extractors.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress. 

Physical Demand/Environmental Factors: Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual tasks and body movement including climbing, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, walking, standing, and carrying.  Ability to lift 50 pounds weight.  Works outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders.
