823 CUSTODIAN


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED

  2. Ability to read basic operating instructions, labels, and follow directions.

  3. Demonstrates aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.

  4. Demonstrates ability to get along with.

  5. Willingness to work occasional overtime, flexible hours, and schedule changes.

REPORTS TO:        DISTRICT CUSTODIAN FOREMAN/PRINCIPAL

JOB GOALS:

  1. To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.               


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades  Paygrade: 1; Estimated 232 days; estimated 8 hours daily  Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES


1.        

Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveway and play areas neat and clean at all times.

2.        

Checks daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bars are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.

3.       

Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects toilet floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.

4.        

Remains on the school premises during school hours, during non school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and custodial attendance is required by the principal.

5.        

Observes all health hazard and safety warnings.

6.       

Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, all fans and thermostats are properly set, and all lights, except those left for safety reasons, are turned off.

7.        

Reports major repairs needed or damage (roof leaks, etc.) to building to the Principal or supervisor.

8.        

Follows the daily work schedule carefully and keeps busy.

9.        

Performs other tasks that the Principal may direct.

10.     

Keeps equipment cleaned; strives for improvement in quality of  performance.

11.     

Complies with directions and instructions from Supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

12.     

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and  demonstrates team work in daily activities.

13.     

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

Uses regular and high speed buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, carpet extractors, electric drill, shampooer, lawn mower, yardbroom, rake, and blower.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental demands:  Reading, ability to understand verbal instructions.

Physical Demand/Environmental Factors:  Must possess good physical dexterity and have the ability to perform manual tasks and body movement including strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.  Work outside and inside; exposure to hot and cold temperatures; exposure to dust, toxic chemicals, and materials; slippery or uneven walking surfaces; work on ladders; work alone.
