Consultant Returns to Give Report Card on Tyler ISD

Tyler Independent School District recently reported an update on the district’s implementation of the recommendations made by a Financial Accountability Task Force.  The recommendations came in part based on a report from Gibson Consulting Group, who was hired by the task force in the fall of 2000.

The latest update on the financial accountability report shows that of sixty-nine recommendations made by the committee, the district has implemented changes that are either completed or on-going in response to sixty-three of the recommendations.

In addition to the recent district report on the recommendations, it has been suggested by task force community members that the district have Gibson Consulting return to the district to perform a follow-up audit to be presented to administrators and the Tyler ISD Board of Trustees.  This would afford the opportunity for the analysis and presentation of an objective third party evaluation of the district’s progress.

“We look forward to Gibson Consulting returning to give us an update on our progress,” said Dr. David Simmons, Superintendent of Schools.  “We plan to use a variety of methods to continually assess the improvement of the district.  We felt that bringing back the same consulting company (Gibson) that provided initial recommendations would provide the most accurate report of the district’s progress.”

The scope of work is to include two individuals evaluating the district over a two to four day period where they will study documents, programs, processes, and departmental budgets.  Gibson Consulting will then present their findings to the Board of Trustees and Superintendent of Schools.  The cost of the analysis will be in the range of $5,000 to $10,000.

The Board of Trustees will vote on the district recommendation to pursue the consulting services at the October 16 board meeting.
