News Release TISD Welcomes Kazakhstan Visitors
On Friday,
September 18, 2009, the students, staff and PTA at Dr. Bryan C. Jack
Elementary School will open its doors and welcome the delegates from
Kazakhstan that are currently visiting the city of Tyler. The group
will arrive at 11:30 a.m. to tour the school and have lunch in the
cafeteria. The visit will last one hour.
The delegation will meet regional leaders in
many fields, including education; make contacts that can be continued
into the future; experience life in Texas homes; and enjoy the cultural
and social benefits of this area.
The trip is sponsored by the Open World
Leadership Center, a program of the United States Congress designed to
enable emerging leaders in Russia and former Soviet Socialist Republics
to gain first-hand exposure to the American system of democracy through
visits to local communities. “The League of Women Voters – nationally and locally - is committed to engaging and educating citizens, strengthening the role of civic organizations, and increasing the involvement of people in their own systems of government, at home and abroad,” says Kristi Roberts, president of the League of Women Voters (LMV) -Tyler/Smith County. “We expect this cross-cultural exchange to be an enlightening experience for our visitors, for our organizations, and for our whole community.”
“Leaders from every aspect of civic life in Tyler/Smith County are
enthusiastically working to help us develop strong educational programs
and to ensure that the guests have a good helping of East Texas
hospitality,” says Dee Brock, chair of the project.
