News Release TISD Students Get a Jump-Start in Business
Students in the ninth and tenth grades at John Tyler High School are getting a jump-start in preparing for a career in business. The Tyler GEAR UP program at John Tyler High School will have a Business Computer Information Systems (BCIS) Summer Camp on Monday, June 15 through Friday, June 26, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at John Tyler High School, located at 1120 NNW Loop 323, in Tyler.
Students will explore several software applications in which they can sharpen their keyboarding skills, create professional presentations, spreadsheets and databases. All of the projects at the BCIS Camp are hands-on activities. Students may become Microsoft Certified Applications Specialist (MCAS) certified with the skills they learn at the camp.
Sponsored and supported by the University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler GEAR Up offers activities that lead to graduation and enrollment in post secondary education. GEAR Up works to develop a culture of high expectations of success accompanied by a rigorous curriculum.
Tyler GEAR Up is in its fourth year and serves students at Boulter, Dogan, Hogg, and Stewart middle schools and John Tyler High School. The Tyler GEAR Up project currently serving over 1,200 students and their parents at John Tyler High School.
