News Release Tyler ISD Announces District Teachers of the Year At the Tyler ISD 2009 Teacher of the Year Banquet Tuesday evening at the Harvey Hall Convention Center, the District honored Campus Teachers of the Year and announced the two District Teachers of the Year. St. Louis School Life Skills teacher Jenny Montalvo was named the 2009 Elementary Teacher of the Year. She has taught in Tyler ISD for 4 years and has a total of 17 years of teaching experience. Hubbard Middle School eighth grade math and algebra teacher Cara Smith was named the 2009 Secondary Teacher of the Year. She is an educator that has been with Tyler ISD for 3 years and has 11 years of teaching experience. Twenty-eight teachers were named Campus Teachers of the Year. Criteria for selection of both the campus Teachers of the Year and the District Teachers of the Year included, among other items: playing an active and useful role in their community, commitment to the teaching profession through continuous improvement, and lessons that creatively engage and inspire students to achieve high academic standards. The 500 guests that attended the banquet included Tyler ISD staff, administrators, teachers, sponsors, and members of the community.
