News Release Tyler ISD Students Qualify for State Recognition Based on Duke University TIP Results
A dozen Tyler ISD students have been recognized by the state as high achievers.
Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are identified and invited to complete either the SAT or the ACT college entrance examinations. Duke TIP then provides the participants with comparative information concerning their academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities. The seventh grade talent search provides an opportunity for highly able students to pursue an above-level testing experience. These above-level tests provide more information about their academic abilities so that they can effectively plan for their high school years.
“We are extremely proud of these students and their achievement,” said Kim Tunnell, Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Tyler ISD. ”This distinguished honor is an example of the hard work and dedication to learning at advanced levels.”
The following students completed the SAT or ACT as part of the 2009 Duke University 7th Grade Talent Search and qualified for state recognition based on their scores. From Hogg Middle School: Samuel Marlow; Hubbard Middle School: Andrew Whetstone; Moore MST Magnet School: Harnaina Bains, Maria Chroneos, Samuel Cook, Cassidy Doke, Erika Gooding, Vann Hassell, Olivia Johnson, Mark McCabe, Dhruv Narayanan, Philip White.
