TISD Excels at UIL District Academic Competition
Congratulations to the students at John Tyler and Robert E.
Lee high schools in competing and placing in the District
University Interscholastic
League (UIL) Academic Meet
held in March. The results are in, and 40 students from both campuses
scored high enough to advance to the Regional UIL Academic Competitions
to be held at Baylor University in Waco, on Saturday, April 25, 2009.
Robert E. Lee High School won the District Academic Meet this year with
a total of 573 points. The second place school was more than 260 points
behind with a total of only 293 points.
According to Michael Ward, Robert E. Lee High School UIL Academic
Sponsor, the students’ accomplishments speak highly of their academic
achievement and the commitment of their academic coaches. He says
preparations for these competitions began in the fall.
“Academics are so important,” said Ward. “The teachers are the unsung
heroes for putting countless hours in coaching these students. To see
these kids excel is so amazing and they will do well in representing
us. They are the best and the brightest students.”
Out of 24 possible events, Tyler ISD students placed in 20 of the
events.
Below is a breakdown of the events and the student who placed in the
competition.
