News Release Local Bank Offers Extraordinary Opportunity to TISD Seniors
Seniors at John Tyler and Robert E. Lee high schools are getting a one of a kind opportunity from the Texas Bank and Trust (TB&T), in Tyler. TB&T has established a Student Board of Directors program for high school seniors, beginning in the 2009-2010 school year. The TB&T Student Board is a prestigious program recognizing outstanding high school seniors in the community.
Students will be selected based on their grade point average, extra-curricular activities, and afterschool work activities. Students must submit an essay with their application as well as two letters of recommendation from either a faculty member or administrator from the high school the student attends.
Students who qualify to serve will attend meetings throughout the school year where they will learn about banking, budgeting, credit, the stock market, trust and brokerage services, job interviewing, and of course, the responsibilities of a bank board of directors.
Interested students may pick up an application in their school counselor’s office. The deadline to return those applications back to their respective counselors is Monday, April 20.
Texas Bank and Trust established the Student Board - its first and most enduring financial literacy program - in 1977.
Since its inception, the Student Board has introduced more than 1,432 high school seniors to banking and money management at a critical point in their lives. This year, the program will continue to provide students with essential economic building blocks related to earning, spending, saving and investing money.
Students accepted into the TB&T Student Board program will be notified in late May. For more information, contact Abigail Duty, Texas Bank and Trust Business Development Officer at (903) 526-8080.
