IB MYP at Hogg Middle School Commended

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization has completed and congratulated the Middle Years Program (MYP) at James S. Hogg Middle School for its successful completion of the program’s first renewal evaluation.

The IB organization evaluates programs every five years in the areas of finance, the MYP philosophy, organization, curriculum, and MYP students. The evaluation team provided commendations and recommendations to the school’s program.

The schools program was specifically commended for the professional demeanor of all the teachers to collaborate for the benefit of student learning. According to the evaluation report, the visiting team of evaluators commended the MYP at Hogg for the development of “some fantastic collaborative teaching moments especially within the arts.”

According to Hogg Middle School Principal, Jo Ann Parsley, the staff is very pleased with the evaluation results. “The four year MYP evaluation visit provided us valuable feedback that will allow us to continue to join an international community committed to providing challenging academic standards and promoting global understanding,” said Parsley. “The program is designed to allow students to develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills they need to participate effectively in life in the 21st century. James S. Hogg Middle School is pleased to be able to offer this program to students here in Tyler Independent School District.”

Preparation for the first renewal evaluation took the MYP Staff more than two years. “We are pleased to have successfully completed our four year MYP evaluation visit,” said Jan Ace, IB MYP Coordinator at James S. Hogg Middle School.

“Our MYP staff, students, and parents worked well together in preparation for this visit. We received a positive Evaluation Report, which commended several aspects of our program including our curriculum, our teachers, and our level of commitment. In addition, the Evaluation Report provided suggestions to make sure that our program continues to growth. We have already begun the planning and implementation of the Evaluation Report recommendations.”

The IB Organization reevaluates the MYP every five years. The evaluation team recommended that James S. Hogg Middle School receive the next programme evaluation visit in five years during the 2013-2014 school year.
