News Release TISD Hires Director of Student Services
Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees has approved and named Jeff Collum to the new position of Director of Student Services. In this position, Collum will be responsible for working successfully with school personnel, students and parents to resolve attendance, academic performance, discipline, and other concerns. He will report to the Deputy Superintendent of Operations.
“Mr. Collum is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic individual who will come ready to make an immediate impact in this critical position, said Cecil McDaniel, Deputy Superintendent of Operations. “He’s a great listener who will provide effective leadership in this role. His success as a high school principal has prepared him to help foster collaborative processes with high levels of accountability.” Collum will directly supervise the Chief of Police, Facilitator of Discipline Services, Attendance Officers, Attendance Facilitator and other professional and paraprofessional staff as assigned. Collum has 10 years of education experience. He began his career in public education with Troup ISD, and then continued in Hallsville ISD and Pine Tree ISD. He has served as a teacher, assistant principal, and most recently high school principal, grades 7 through 12, for Martins Mill ISD in Ben Wheeler, Texas. Collum holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Science/Sports medicine from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He received his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
The TISD Board of Trustees approved Collum’s hiring at its May 15 meeting. He officially begins his duties July 1, 2008.
